Blockchain Summit and AI Tech World: Blockchain Can Bring Transparency to the Supply Chain and AI Can Improve the Customer Experience This week, FGRT’s London team attended Blockchain Summit and AI Tech World, two events on blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, respectively. Points touched on during presentations at the respective events include: 1) Blockchain is a relatively low-cost and flexible technology that enables manufacturers to work directly with suppliers. The technology could help solve the problem of counterfeit products in the pharmaceutical and luxury industries. 2) Initial coin offerings (ICOs) are here to stay as a fundraising instrument, but it will be paramount to introduce good governance to ensure its future expansion and to avoid regulatory crackdowns. 3) AI is transforming retailing by enabling a better customer experience, enhancing personalization and making it possible to anticipate customer demand. AI contributes significantly to the efficiency of business operations. Data protection is seen as the single biggest challenge in the adoption of AI in retail. FGRT’s London team attended Blockchain Summit and AI Tech World, two events on blockchain and AI technology, respectively, and their application in industries including e-commerce, logistics, finance and banking. Both events took place at Olympia, London—Blockchain Summit on November 28 and AI Tech World the following day. Here, we report our key takeaways from the presentations we attended. Blockchain Bringing Transparency to the Supply Chain At Blockchain Summit, we attended a talk about the impact of the blockchain on the supply chain and its players. Participating in the discussion were Jody Cleworth, CEO at freight forwarder Marine Transport International; Joseph Wreford, Strategy Consultant at consultancy firm Accenture; Nick Williamson, Founder at tech firm Qadre; and Christophe Ozcan, Blockchain Technical Expert—France at tech firm Crypto4All. The presentation was moderated by Maggie Slowik, Senior Research Analyst— Manufacturing Insights EMEA, at market research firm IDC.
