You will have to deposit a minimum of EURO 7908{8040(fif applying through banglore consulate )}- in a blocked account in a bank in Germany and you can only withdraw a maximum of EURO 659,- per month. (Check the exact amount from Embassy)You must make this change in the account opening form to ensure that you don't face problem later on.This has to be opened when you are in India. Although it is not mandatory by all embassies. Some embassies allow you to take a Foreign DD of worth this amount with you and deposit this amount in Germany when you are there. Consult with your embassy. Is this money sufficient for entire duration of study?   No!! On time of arrival (in addition to rental, registration and living costs) you also need to pay tuition fees and semester contribution to enrol at the University. (This note is valid for those students who haven't got an exemption from tuition fees). The costs are ca. 700 € and therewith higher than your monthly limit of withdrawal. Corresponding to this blocked account you may not be able to pay these semester fees. So please remember to bring enough money in addition to be able to pay for these costs. Or cover your account with a higher amount corresponding to the requested additional fees. Also please remember that you will have to pay these additional costs every new semester and therefore need to have enough money on your account. How to open a block account in Germany ?  1. You can contact any bank in Germany over the internet and obtain the information regarding a Bl ocked Accoun directly from the bank. One of the option is Deutsche Bank, the process for that is given below.  2. Obtain information and the application form from the email address below. The emails from them is reproduced below[email protected] 3. After filling out the application form, you will have to get your signature and a copy of your  passport certified by the German Embassy 4. Send the application form to the address stated below in Germany 1. Deutsche Bank Privat- und Geschäftskunden AG Spezialservice Ausländische Studenten Alter Wall 53 20457 Hamburg Germany 5. The above mentioned office in Hamburg arranges the opening of an account with the office of the future residence and informs you directly, without intervention of the General Consulate, by  post and parallel by email about the account number, BLZ and IBAN of the opened account. It takes 2-3 weeks to open account. 6. finally you transfer the necessary amount to the furnished account and prove this to the German Embassy/Consulate in your home country (India). Dear Sirs,

Thank you for applying to open a student blocked account with us. Attached you will find more

information on the account and the forms needed for the account opening as PDF-document

"account openings".

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 

Please print out these forms, fill in all necessary fields and sign them in person exclusively at a

German Embassy in order to receive a confirmed account opening document and passport

copy. For support and further proceeding please read carefully our information sheet “Notes oncompleting the documents”. 

After receiving the documents and checking they have been filled out completely and accurately,

we will open your account. As the opening can take several days, we hope you will understandthat, due to time constraints, we do not respond to any phone calls or e-mails regarding the status

of the account opening.

Once your account has been opened, we will send your account number, the IBAN and Bank ID-

Code to you. Therefore, please ensure that your e-mail address is written on the account opening

application.

As soon as you have received your account number, you can transfer the required minimum

 balance as specified in the supplementary form to your account. We recommend that you please

consider our service charge for opening the blocked account, the charges and transaction fees billed by your principal bank and possible charges of the Deutsche Bank for non-domestic credit

After crediting the complete blocked amount to your account the confirmation will be send

automatically to you and the German embassy. You may, of course, transfer amounts exceeding

the minimum balance. Please note that "Demand Draft" or "Cross Cheque" will not be

acceptable.

We kindly request you to visit one of Deutsche Bank’s branches when you arrive in Germany,

where a member of staff will assist you in completing the service order. Please note that your account will remain blocked without this service order (this means that previously entered

transfers or direct debits will not be executed)! Then additional amounts can of course be

withdrawn without any restrictions

If you do not receive a visa to enter Germany and want the account to be closed and/or the funds

transfered, please notify us. You will then receive our "information for closing the account".
