The Ascension of the Lord
My dear parishioners, Since I had to write this letter prior to our feast day, I will write about that next week. I hope that many of you were able to attend the Mass and join in the consecration. For 165 years, our parish has been under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Help of Christians. She has been with us the whole way, through the wars, changing populations, three church buildings, the opening, the growth and closing of our school, the arrival of the Dominican Sisters and their departure and so much more. There have been so many changes in the parish, fourteen pastors, numer-ous parochial vicars, large crowds at Mass to smaller crowds, different societies, groups, etc. Mass was cele-brated in Latin for the majority of that time, but now in English and Spanish. Through all the changes, the one constant has been the presence of Jesus and his Blessed Mother. We could lament the changes and long for days past, or we can accept the new realities and see possibilities. If we remain stuck in how things were, we can only become bitter and resentful. This past week, one of the readings from the Acts of the Apos-tles, was about how people were angry with St. Paul and tried to kill him with stones. He was left for dead. It could have been the end of the story. It wasn’t. St. Paul got back up and went on preaching the Gospel. He did not give up, he did not complain, he chose to pick himself up and surrender all to Jesus. We too need to surrender all to Jesus, through the intercession and care of the Virgin Mary. With trust in her, who trusted in God completely, we can find new ways to strengthen our faith and grow. I be-lieve that our consecration day will be the beginning of a new era in our parish. That consecration was not meant to be a one-day event, but the renewal of all our hearts in a daily consecration to her who is always in the presence of the Triune God. With this heavenly aid, our hearts will be renewed, the Holy Spirt will pour graces upon us and we will shine as a beacon in a fall-en world. Keep praying, keep trusting, keep loving. Mis queridos feligreses, Como tengo que escribir esta carta antes de nuestra fiesta patronal, les escribiré acerca de ella la próxima semana. Espero que muchos de ustedes pu-dieron asistir y se unieron a la consagración. Por 165 años, nuestra parroquia ha estado bajo la protección de María Auxiliadora. Ella ha estado con nosotros todo el tiempo, a través de las guerras, cambiando las pobla-ciones, tres edificios de la iglesia, la apertura, el creci-miento y clausura de nuestra escuela, la llegada de las Hermanas Dominicas y su partida y mucho más. Ha habido muchos cambios en la parroquia, catorce párro-cos, numerosos vicarios parroquiales, grandes multitu-des en la Misa a pequeñas cantidades, diferentes socie-dades, grupos, etc. La Misa fue celebrada en Latín por la mayor parte de ese tiempo, pero ahora es en inglés y español. A través de los cambios, lo único constante ha sido la presencia de Jesús y su Santísima Madre. Nos podemos lamentar de los cambios y anhe-lar los días que han pasado, o podemos aceptar las nuevas realidades y ver posibilidades. Si nos queda-mos estancados en como eran las cosas, solamente nos podemos volver amargados y resentidos. La semana pasada, una de las lecturas de los Hechos de los Após-toles, fue acerca de como la gente estaba molesta con San Pablo y trataron de matarlo apedreándolo. Lo deja-ron por muerto. Ha podido ser el final de la historia. Pero no fue así. San Pablo se levantó y siguió predican-do el Evangelio. El no se rindió, no se quejó, el escogió levantarse y entregarlo todo a Jesús. Nosotros también necesitamos entregar todo a Jesús, por medio de la intercesión y cuidado de la Vir-gen María. Confiando en ella, quien confió en Dios completamente, nosotros podemos encontrar nuevas formas para fortalecer nuestra fe y crecer. Yo creo que el día de nuestra consagración será el comienzo de una nueva era en nuestra parroquia. La consagración no quiso decir un evento de un día, sino la renovación de todos nuestros corazones en una consagración diaria a ella quien está siempre en la presencia del Dios Trino. Con esta ayuda celestial, nuestros corazones serán re-novados, el Espíritu Santo derramará gracias sobre no-sotros y brillaremos como un faro en un mundo caído. Summer Bible Program The office of religious education is excited to announce that regis-tration is open for our Summer Bible Program. The bible pro-gram will take place from August 12th to August 23rd and will have an awesome theme for each week!!!
Last year we had 50 children learning about the faith, growing as community, and having fun. ¡PADRES DE FAMILIA! ¡Esto es lo que pasará en la Noche Juvenil este fin de semana!
MORADA: una noche acerca del Sacrificio Pascual Cuando recibimos a Jesús en la Eucaristía nos conver-timos en Tabernáculos del Señor y somos unidos con Jesús. La Comunión con Dios es un componente fun-damental de la vida cristiana. Esta cita de San Agustín resume esta misión, “Tu nos has hecho para ti, O Se-ñor, y nuestros corazones están inquietos hasta no descansar en ti.” María, en su naturaleza de inmaculada, es el ejemplo perfecto de la comunión con Dios porque ella estaba perfectamente unida con Jesús cuando lo llevó dentro de su vientre y después de su Muerte y Resurrección en la Eucaristía. La Misa no es solo una celebración y el hacer presente el sacrificio de Jesús, pero es también una oportunidad de unirnos al sacrificio Pascual. Es nuestro llamado recibir a Jesús en la Eucaristía y vivir en comunión con el sacrificio Pascual. Es un honor ser la morada de Jesús. REFLEXIÓN/ CONVERSACIÓN EN FAMILIA 1. ¿Cuán importante es la Misa en tu familia? ¿Es tan importante como deber ser? 2. ¿Recibiendo la Eucaristía hace diferentes nuestras vidas? 3. ¿Cómo influye tu vida el ser un tabernáculo viviente? ¿Y la vida de tu familia?
PARENTS! Here’s what’s going on at our Youth Night this weekend!
DWELLING PLACE: a night on the Paschal Sacrifice When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we become tabernacles of the Lord and are united with Jesus. Com-munion with God is a foundational component of the Christian life. Augustine’s quote sums up this quest, “You have made us for yourself, Oh Lord, and our hearts are restless until we rest in you.” Mary, in her immaculate nature, is the most perfect ex-ample of communion with God because she was perfect-ly united with Jesus when she carried Him in her womb and after His Death and Resurrection in the Eucharist. Mass is not only a celebration and a making present of Jesus’ sacrifice, but also an opportunity to be united with the Paschal sacrifice. It is our calling to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and live in communion with the Paschal sacrifice. It is an honor to be His dwelling place. CONVERSATION STARTERS 1. How important is Mass in our family? Is it as important as it should be? 2. Does receiving the Eucharist make us live our lives differently? 3. How does being a living tabernacle influence your life? The life of your family?
