Meditation/Meditación L A T I E R R A B U E N A . . .

L a liturgia de este día se mueve como un pén-dulo entre dos verdades importantes. De una

parte, se subraya la eficacia de la Palabra de Dios. Todo aquello que Dios dice es verdadero y encontra-rá su cumplimiento en el momento oportuno. La Pa-labra de Dios desciende desde el cielo como lluvia que empapa y fecunda la tierra. El terreno debe es-tar bien preparado para acoger la semilla y producir fruto. Aunque el sembrador siembra con esfuerzo y con auténtica generosidad y a pesar de que la semilla tiene una vitalidad propia, se requiere que la tierra esté preparada y bien dispuesta. El tema se trata de la colaboración entre la gracia de Dios y la libertad humana. Una comprensión exacta de la litur-gia de este día, nos conduce sin duda a una vida cristiana más au-téntica y más comprometida, funda-da ciertamente en la eficacia de la Palabra de Dios, pero al mismo tiempo responsable de los dones recibidos y de la necesidad de pro-ducir fruto. Lo que nos toca a noso-tros es averiguar qué clase de te-rreno, de los explicados por Jesús, somos nosotros. Son muchas las maneras de acercarnos a la palabra del Reino y muchas las ocasiones en que esa palabra, la semilla se deposita en nuestro cora-zón. ¿Por qué en unos casos nos quedamos sin en-tenderla? ¿Por qué, después de escuchar la palabra y aceptarla "con alegría", no echa raíces? ¿Por qué mi actitud no es constante? ¿Qué consistencia tiene mi condición de cristiano que al, menor soplo caen por tierra mis “entusiasmos"? ¿O queda ahogada la fuerza de esa palabra por las inquietudes de la vida o por tantas cosas materiales que seducen mis am-biciones de "tener siempre más, en lugar de "ser" más? La palabra nos exige claridad de ideas y deci-siones acertadas y firmes Hay algunos que, ante las dificultades, se echan atrás, pierden el sentido de su existencia, se dejan arrebatar por el miedo y la inhi-bición en la práctica del bien. La liturgia de este día nos invita a confiar en la eficacia de la Palabra. Nos muestra que la creación entera está expectante aguardando la plena mani-festación de los hijos de Dios. Nos encontramos en una situación paradójica: el ser humano ha sido ya salvado y redimido por la obra de Cristo, pero aún le queda peregrinar en la tierra hacia la posesión plena de Dios.

WHO HEARS THE WORD AND UNDERSTANDS...

J esus left the house and sat by the lakeside, but such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stood on

the beach, and he told them many things in parables. He said, ‘Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patch-es of rock where they found little soil and sprang up straight away, because there was no depth of earth;

but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears!’ Then the disciples went up to him and asked, ‘Why do you talk to them in parables?’ ‘Because’ he replied ‘the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are revealed to you, but they are not revealed to them. For anyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough; but from an-

yone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. The reason I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen without hearing or un-derstanding. ‘You, therefore, are to hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom without understanding, the evil one comes and carries off what was sown in his heart: this is the man who received the seed on the edge of the path. The one who received it on patches of rock is the man who hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy. But he has no root in him, he does not last; let some trial come, or some persecution on account of the word, and he falls away at once. The one who received the seed in thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the lure of riches choke the word and so he produces nothing. And the one who received the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; he is the one who yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty.’ Part of life is trial and effort. Jesus was the same. He threw out love like the sower throws out the seed. He knows it may fall bad. But he gives it anyway. He gave love on Calvary to everyone.

God is like that. It may take years to flower. God doesn’t stint the seed, nor does he stint love.
