Blessed Mother Mary Magdalene of the Incarnation During the last days of Mother Mary Magdalene of the Incarnation’s life, her entire being was one with the beatitudes and the changes God creates in nature. When winter approached, she would die to her body and her spirit would take flight. She said, “With the falling of the leaves, I will die.” On the evening of November 28, 1824, one of the Adoration Sisters stood at the balcony railing looking over the orchard of trees. She was aware that not a single leaf was left upon these trees. It was at this time Mother Mary Magdalene entered into her agony and intense suffering. In the early hours of November 29th, the physicians tried once again to cure her by applying hot poultices. This only added to the dying Mother’s suffering. But Mother let the Sisters at her bedside know that in her agony the Blessed Mother had promised to comfort her. Mother requested her niece, Sister Cherubina, to recite the Holy Rosary and the sorrowful mysteries. Sister Cherubina did not immediately begin the Rosary because she thought Mother was resting quietly. But Mother turned her eyes toward her and said, “The Rosary.” It was now five a.m. and while the Sisters’ recited the third sorrowful mystery, Mother’s eyes fixed upon some distant object and like in an ecstasy she was gone. This year marks the 195th Anniversary of her death. The feast of our Foundress is November 29th.
