"But the wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, and those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever." (Dan 12:3)

We are now in the second to the last Sunday of the liturgical year's readings! There is a hint at the 'end time' also known as 'eschaton' coupled with an expectant hope rather than of anxiety and worry. On our journey towards God's dwelling place, our 'heavens and earths' will simply pass away. Our focus is to participate in Jesus' promise of angels to gather the 'elect.' Through our own baptisms, we, like the angels, are entrusted with gathering and reconciling those who are searching and lost; healing to those who are broken in body or in spirit. After all, life is a journey of change - changes that may sometimes be traumatic and frightening, always difficult. But the promise of God's life and the gospel values would be our constant inspiration and incentive to stay the course. We are further invited to embrace not the things of the world, but rather the things God - the eternal treasures of love and mercy, joy in serving one another in the gift of ministry and the peace and satisfaction that comes from having lifted up the hopes of someone and others in the faith community. Thus, based on the prophecies of Daniel, we continue to be 'wise' and 'shine brightly'; leading 'many to justice' like 'stars forever...' From the second reading in the letter to the Hebrews, Christ's self-offering is memorialized in the Sunday or weekday Eucharist that we celebrate as a community. In the midst of events and people in our lives passing, Christ's saving work and words will remain forever. This is inspiration enough as we prepare for the coming liturgical year, that is, after we celebrate the feast of Christ the King in our next Sunday's liturgy. Fr. Ramon Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mk 13:31)
