Our university continues to grow in the online space, but face-to- face delivery is still a mainstay at our campus. Blended learning provides important flexibility for our students to work and take care of their families on a regular schedule. Additionally, the online component of blended courses can offer more personalization and customization for different learning preferences and needs. How did the program help you in your position/career? The program expanded my knowledge of the scholarship around blended learning. Additionally, ideas about strategic uses of discussion boards and forums helped me to rethink how these can be used well beyond “community building” or question forums. To whom and why you would recommend the OLC Blended Learning Mastery Series: Research into Practice? Faculty open to rethinking the assumptions of their course design should strongly consider the series. In the Graduate School, he supports initiatives that expand the reach of graduate programming to working and place-based professionals seeking to grow their professional skill sets. Online programming is an important component to this growth. Matthew attended OLC Accelerate in 2017 and was impressed at the range of training available from the OLC, this is where he learned about the Blended Learning Mastery Series: Research into Practice. 1. Excitement to try new ideas in course design. 2. Shift from thinking of hybrid classes as replacing seat time to blended classes as offering strategic design choices for the online and face-to- face modules. 3. Rethinking of the purposes and uses for discussion boards between face- to-face sessions. 4. Using multimedia for online classes and not just text/reading. 5. Rich discussions with peers to give new ideas about course design. Find an OLC Mastery Series that best meets your professional development needs.
