TRANSMISSIONLINE ROUTE
Transmission Line ConstructionConstruction will start this month on a 7.5 mile, 115 kilovolt transmission line (see map) that will deliver the electricity generated from the wind farm to the electric grid. The steel, single-pole transmission line will run the 7.5 miles between the Blazing Star 1 Substation west of Steep Bank Lake and the Blazing Star 2 Substation west of Ivanhoe.
Construction Timeline • Transmission line construction:
Begins March 2020
• Wind farm access road construction: Begins Spring 2020
• Underground collection cable installation: Begins Spring 2020
• Construction of wind turbine foundations: Begins Summer 2020
• Delivery of wind towers and components: Begins Summer 2020
• Wind turbine installation: Begins Summer 2020
• Wind farm fully operational: December 2020

BLAZING STAR 2WIND FARM CONSTRUCTION
Construction will start this spring on Xcel Energy’s Blazing Star 2 wind project in Lincoln County. Once road restrictions are removed, crews will start building access roads to turbine sites and will use specialized machinery to bury 96 miles of underground collection cable. Landowners may also see ATV’s driving crane path routes this spring.
Several roads within the project area will be upgraded prior to the start of turbine foundation construction. Large trucks will also start delivering turbine parts this summer. Please use extra caution when driving on area roads this spring and summer because of the heavy truck traffic.
When complete, the 100 turbines powering the 200-megawatt project will supply enough carbon-free, renewable energy to power nearly 105,000 homes. Wind is a clean, renewable resource and continues to be a growing part of our transition to providing customers carbon-free electricity. Blazing Star 1 and 2 wind projects will deliver more emissions-free power, lease payments to landowners, local jobs in the area, and tax revenue for local governments.
