Important information

What you need to know!

Before starting to use your new car radio youshould carefully read through the informationon “Traffic safety” and “Anti-theft coding”.

Traffic safety

Traffic safety has always priority. Use yourcar radio in such a manner that you arealways able to cope with and react to theprevailing traffic situation at any given time.Remember, even at 50 km/h you are stillmoving at a speed of 14 m per seconds. It is also very important that you are able tohear, and react to, acoustic warning signalsaround you, for example from the police orthe firebrigade. Therefore, adjust the volume reasonably.

Installation/connection

The code system can only be switched onand off, if the radio is connected to perma-nent power. If you like to install your new car radio byyourself or add other audio components tothe existing ones, then please read carefullythe enclosed instructions on installation andconnection.

Do not connect the loudspeaker outputs toground!Only use the accessory and replacementparts approved by Blaupunkt.

Anti-theft coding

The car radio comes standard with the codesystem deactivated. If the anti-theft coding system is on while thepower supply to the unit is interrupted (e.g.theft, disconnecting the car battery), the set iselectronically blocked. Then it may only beused again after the appropriate code num-ber has been entered (see car radio pass-port).

Wrong code number entered

It should not be possible for thieves to ascer-tain the code number by trial-and-error. Thisis why the set will be blocked for a certainperiod of time, if an incorrect code number isentered. In this case, “- - - -” will appear in thedisplay. This waiting time is 10 seconds after the firstthree attempts, and 1 hour following subse-quent attempts. After 19 unsuccessful attempts, “OFF” willappear in the display and the set can nolonger be restarted.

Note:

Keep you car radio passport with the codenumber in a safe place in order to avoid“unauthorized access” to your car radio.

If the power supply to the radio is interruptedwhile the code system is switched on, youneed to know the right code number. The radio will operate again as soon as youhave entered the right code number. If you lose your radio passport and haveforgotten your code number, you will not beable to restart the set after the power supplyhas been interrupted. In this case, your radiocan only be reset in our central customerservice workshop or in one of our serviceagencies abroad.

Radio operation with RDS (Radio Data System)

AF - alternative frequency

The AF function makes sure that the stron-gest frequency of the selected program isalways tuned in automatically. This function is activated if “AF” lights up inthe display. You can then use the << / >>rocker switch to scroll through the programsof a radio network, e.g. from NDR1 to NDR4(North German broadcaster) or to display theentire AF memory. To switch AF on/off:• Press AF briefly.During seek tuning for the frequency offeringthe best reception of the selected program, the radio is muted for a moment. If “SEARCH” appears in the display whenturning on the set or when calling up one ofthe stored frequencies, the set is automati-cally searching for an alternative frequency.“SEARCH” goes out as soon as the systemhas found an alternative frequency or afterthe frequency band has been scanned com-pletely.Should the reception quality of the selectedprogram become too bad,• tune into another program.

REG - Regional

The AF function can also be used to activateand deactivate the regional function. At some times of the day, larger radio stati-ons split up their main program into regionalprogram versions offering local information. If you want the radio to lock onto a regionalprogram,• hold down the AF button for about 2

seconds. The display will show “REG ON”.

If you leave the service area of the regionalstation tuned in, or if you wish to use theentire RDS service again, switch to “REGOFF”.• Hold down the AF button for about 2

seconds until “REG OFF” is displayed. If “REG ON” is activated, the display willshow “REG ON” each time the radio is swit-ched on.

To make radio reception even more conven-ient, an ever increasing number of FM radiostations broadcast additional information inparallel with their normal program via theRadio Data System. As soon as a radio program can be identified, the station name and possibly also a regionalidentifier will appear in the display, e.g.“NDR1 NDS” (local radio program in LowerSaxony, Germany). With RDS, the preset buttons turn into pro-gram buttons. Now you know exactly towhich program your set is tuned in, making itabsolutely easy to find the desired stationquickly. But RDS even offers you more advantages:

Reception of traffic announcements with RDS-EON (Enhanced Other Networks)

Many FM broadcasters provide their servicearea with traffic messages at regular inter-vals.All traffic program stations transmit a specialtelegram signal in addition to the radio pro-gram, which is recognised and decoded bythe car radio. As soon as such a signal isreceived, the display shows “TP” (TrafficProgram).Other radio stations do not air traffic an-nouncements by themselves, but offer thepossibility to receive the traffic announce-ments of another station within the sameradio network. In this case, “TP” will light upin the display as soon as the priority for trafficannouncements is activated. The displaymust then show “TA”.If a traffic announcement comes in, yourradio will automatically switch to the trafficprogram for the duration of the message andreturn to the previous station after the end ofthe message.
