It was developed at the PICKSEED research station, and originated from tillers taken from elite selections of spreading (rhizomatus) turf type tall fescues that also exhibited superior summer performance. ADAPTATION: BladeRunner II has excellent summer performance. It posted top scores in the 2007-2011 NTEP trial for drought tolerance and from summer dormancy. It placed in the top 10 in the four location drought tolerance (dormancy) trial. BladeRunner II had similar scores for recovery from summer dormancy in both Dallas, TX and Logan, UT. BladeRunner II has been screened extensively for salt tolerance. It will germinate and grow under water salt levels approaching 10,000 ppm total salts. It is well adapted to acid soils as well as shady conditions ESTABLISHMENT: Recommended seeding times are early to mid spring (good) or late summer to early fall (best). A seeding rate of 6-10 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. is recommended for new plantings. For overseeding existing turf, a rate of 3-5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. is best. Normally seedings will emerge in 7-10 days after planting. A mowing height of between 1.25 - 3.5 inches is ideal, but lower cutting heights can also be tolerated.
