Principal’s Message
Term 1, Weeks 7 and 8
Welcome to our Term 1, Week 7 and 8 newsletter. What an unusual situation we have seen ourselves over the
last fortnight! As a school, we continue to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our students and staff. We are
working closely to implement all recommended guidelines from the Department of Education who continue to work
closely with NSW Health. This includes a regular hand washing schedule, supervised hand sanitation, the
encouragement of hygiene rules that discourage face touching, encourage sneezing into a tissue and disposing of
immediately or an elbow. Staff continue to check soap dispensers throughout the school on a regular basis. We
have implemented social distancing and ask students and staff to remain at least 1.5m away from each other during
work and play times. At this stage, the school continues to operate as normal and will continue doing so until we are
instructed to do otherwise. Currently all students are expected to be at school and on time unless they have any flu
like or respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, runny nose etc.) If your child does present with any of these,
please keep them at home until symptoms are gone.
We will continue to send out weekly updates on school events and excursions that may be changed, postponed
or cancelled due to COVID 19. Please take the time to read these notes so that you can stay up to date with
events. We have since received notification from the Commonwealth Bank advising us that all school banking will
cease until at least the end of Term 1 due to health and safety concerns.
Please stay safe and healthy and I look forward to sharing with you our successes in the next newsletter.

Music
Music continues to inspire us on Tuesdays with most students practising their wind instruments during break
times. At this stage, trumpets are expected to go home next week where we ask students to practise these and
their recorders for 10 minutes each day. At this stage, the Festival of Music is unsure of whether or not it will go
ahead, but have asked us to continue learning and practising as if it is still going ahead.
Bob Troppo’s Magic and Resilience Show
Friday the 13th saw students travel to Werris Creek Public School to watch a very
engaging Resilience and Magic Show. Students were in awe of the many magic tricks
and learnt the key concepts of never giving up, bouncing back and learning from our
mistakes. Students watched as Bob made items disappear, reappear and change. An
invisible rabbit transformed into a real life guinea pig! Thank you WCPS!
Waste Management Session
On Wednesday 11th March, staff from the Liverpool Plains Shire Council Waste Management Program visited our
school and spoke to our children about recycling and how we can reduce the amount of waste in our world.
Students considered how and what we waste, where it ends up and the problems associated with our throw away
society.
Ride to School Day
On Friday 13th, students rode their bikes and scooters to school as
part of our involvement in the National Ride2School day. Students
were taken through some learning on how to check their bikes and
common road rules before taking part in an around the school bike
track demonstrating the key concepts they had just learnt. Thank you
to Mrs Williams for her organisation in the day and to the students
who generously donated gold coins which have been donated to the
foundation.
Lock down
Today our school participated in a lock down drill, ensuring all staff and students were aware of what they
should do. Not even an hour later, students put this practise into reality when our school was put into a real
lockdown due to a snake sighting. I would like to say that all children did just as they have been told over the last
few years and followed all directions in a safe and calm manner. Congratulations to everyone involved, but
especially Mrs Bell who ensured the safety of our children was paramount. Please take the time to speak to your
children about this and reiterate snake sighting measures.

Canteen
Don’t forget canteen runs every Thursday. Please ensure all lunch orders are handed to Mrs Williams or
Miss Burns before class starts. Correct change is appreciated.
Canberra Excursion
At this stage, there is some uncertainty regarding our Canberra excursion and if or when it will take place.
However it is crucial that payments are still made until a final decision can be made so that families are not
caught having to make a significant payment towards the end. Even if the excursion does not occur within the
dates mentioned, there is the possibility it will be organised for later in the year. Next due date for payments is
Monday 23rd March. Please ensure this payment and any overdue payments are made.
Crazy Camel
Crazy Camel orders are now OVERDUE. Please pay as soon as possible either by the POP system or cash to
the office.
P and C General Meeting
Thank you to all those who attended our second P and C meeting for the term. It is so sad to hear of so
many events being cancelled in the upcoming weeks/months, but our P and C continue to plan how they can best
support our school through future endeavours.
On Saturday 14th March, the P and C held a BBQ fundraising event at IGA Quirindi. Thank you to all those
mums and dads who gave up their time to help out on the day and who cooked a variety of delicious cakes and
slices for us to sell. Special thanks to Kathy and Jeff who very generously donated a trailer load of wood to
raffle. Congratulations to Sid Spinks who was the winner of our raffle.
BAMD Meeting
There was a good turn out for the recent BAMD meeting this week where due to the uncertainty of the
COVID 19 pandemic, it was decided to sadly cease the Blackville Art and Market Day for 2020. It is hoped that
2021 will see the resumption of this amazing event which is so invaluable to both our school and community. We
thank those committee members and helpers who have created the wonderful event it is today. Our students,
school and community will be forever grateful.
