DESCRIPTION
BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW was created by recording artist and jewellery designer Marie-Juliette Bird. Born from a love of Victorian jewellery and a desire to create something less ephemeral than music and dance, BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW launches it's first season this winter, 2012. Having lived between London and the American West for nearly a decade, Marie-Juliette brings a fusion of old world and new world aesthetics to the line. After having trained as a dancer at the Juilliard School in NYC, Marie-Juliette moved to London, for music, where she began collecting Victorian charms, at outdoor markets, (in the rain). These charms now serve as the heart of inspiration for BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW; antique birds, stars, wings and moons evoke a refined European sensibility while echoing the awe of nature extolled by early American pioneers. All pieces are hand crafted, using gold, sterling silver, and the world's most precious jewels.

ARTIST’SSTATEMENT
BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW is a fusion of delicate, Victorian aesthetic, and a distinctly modern edge. Whereas many modern jewelry lines are created using CAD, (Computer Aided Design), each Blackbird and the Snow piece begins with the creation of a detailed, handcrafted charm. Black rhodium plating, flat hammered gold and delicate chains add an artisanal feel, while maintaining the singular delicacy of the line.
BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW is designed and owned by Marie-Juliette Bird. After having trained as a dancer at the Juilliard School in NYC, Marie-Juliette moved to London, where she began working under the mentorship of David Courts - (of Courts and Hackett, creators of the original Keith Richards skull ring).
ARTIST’SSTATEMENT
The Victorians were fascinated with the world of Darwin and the subsequent taxonomy of nature; their jewelry reflects this ethos. Our current relationship with nature speaks of a warming world and the ramifications implicit for all life. In both eras, totems of the natural world serve as a connection to a greater movement and, simply, as a symbol of beauty.
BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW launched its first season in Winter 2012. All pieces are hand crafted, in house, using 14k gold, sterling silver and the world’s most precious jewels.
Since it’s inception, the line has gained a loyal following and continues to grow its presence through retail placement and fairs internationally.
Working in London, under the mentorship of David Courts - (of Courts and Hackett, creators of the original Keith Richards skull ring), Marie-Juliette worked to re-imagine these charms into modern jewelry.
Having relocated to Boulder, Colorado, in 2012, Marie-Juliette teamed up with a local master craftsman and founded BLACKBIRD AND THE SNOW. All pieces are hand crafted, in house, using 14k gold, sterling silver and the world’s most precious jewels.
