New ATV Program at Camp Raymond We are thrilled to announce that thanks to American Honda Motor Co., the Grand Canyon Council has received 10 Honda Recon 250 ATVs which will be stationed at Camp Raymond this summer. We’re offering a one-day prototype program each Friday this summer, and planning for a full five-day High Adventure option in 2019 and beyond. As a prototype activity, the ATV Safety Institute has strict policies as we start the program. Selected Scouts will complete the ATV Safety Institute RiderCourse at camp before enjoying a challenging ATV trail ride. Since we are limited to just six 16+ year olds and two 14-15 year olds each week, a lottery is the only fair method of selecting the lucky riders. We invite each troop to submit the names and birthdates of eligible and interested Scouts to [email protected] by this SUNDAY (June10) afternoon at 5:00 pm. We will place all names in a hat, select six 16+ Scouts and two 14-15 Scouts at random Monday morning. The list of Scouts will be posted at HQ along with a schedule for training etc. Since time is short, please have the Scouts that entered the ATV lottery bring long pants, a long sleeve shirt, over-the-ankle boots and a parent/guardian signed waiver 1

New ATV Program at Camp Raymond

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to American Honda Motor Co., the Grand Canyon Council has received 10 Honda Recon 250 ATVs which will be stationed at Camp Raymond this summer.

Since time is short, please have the Scouts that entered the ATV lottery bring long pants, a long sleeve shirt, over-the-ankle boots and a parent/guardian signed waiver to camp (attached to this letter). They must understand there is a chance they will not be chosen. This is a pilot program and we hope to have more availability next camp season. We will provide helmets, googles and gloves.

There is a $50 fee per scout to cover the added costs of this program.

During ATV training, students will practice basic safety techniques with hands-on exercises covering starting and stopping, turning (both gradual and quick), negotiating hills, emergency stopping and swerving, and riding over obstacles. Particular emphasis is placed on the safety implications relating to each lesson. The course also covers protective gear (like DOT-compliant ATV helmets), environmental concerns, and local laws. Participants receive the ATV RiderCourse Handbook, which reinforces the safety information and riding techniques covered in ATV RiderCourse.

We hope you take advantage of this new adventurous activity offered by Camp Raymond and the Grand Canyon Council.

Yours in Scouting,

George J. CannelosCamp Director, Camp Raymond
