• Rosa Parks was born in 1913 and grew up on her grandparents’ farm in Alabama, USA.

• In the southern states of America where she lived there was racial segregation, which meant that there were different sections for black and white people on public buses.

• One day Rosa Parks was sitting in the black section of the bus when the bus driver rudely told her to stand, so that a white man could sit down. She refused and was arrested and jailed.

• The black people in her community of Montgomery disagreed with what had happened to her and boycotted the buses for 381 days.

• This resulted in the US Supreme Court ruling that it was illegal to separate black and white people on buses.

Pelé

• Pelé was a football master. He scored a record breaking amount of goals for club and country.

• Born in Brazil 1940.

• He is the all-time leading scorer of the Brazil national football team and is the only footballer to be a part of three World Cup-winning squads.

• Since his retirement in 1977, Pelé has been a worldwide ambassador for football.

Oprah is one of America’s most loved TV celebrities. Oprah was sexually abused in the family home and she ran away at the age of nine. She went on to host The Oprah Winfrey Show which became the number one TV show in America. Oprah was the first African American woman to become a billionaire. She now uses her fame and wealth to support and help people all over the world.

Will Smith

• Will Smith is a famous American actor, producer and rapper.

• He was nominated for four Golden globe awards, two Academy awards and won four Grammy awards.

• His rapper name is “The Fresh Prince”.

• Will Smith famously said “I don't know what my calling is, but I want to be here for a bigger reason. I strive to be like the greatest people who have ever lived.”

• Will Smith has been a inspiration to a lot of black people.

• Will Smith starred in the in the series “Fresh prince of Bel Air”. He also starred in “Men In Black” and “I Am Legend”.
