Independence Day, or better known as the Fourth of July is

a holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Inde-

pendents, which was on July 4, 1776. Independence Day is

commonly associated with fireworks, barbeques, picnics,

carnivals, fairs, and family reunions. It’s a time where fami-

lies can get together, and have a good time with each other.

Popping fireworks is the common thing to do on the Fourth

of July. When you pop fireworks you have to be sure to fol-

low the instructions, and always be safe because if you don’t

you could get seriously injured or even die, or you could se-

riously injure or even kill someone else. The Fourth of July

is a day full of fun and games, but those fun and games can

turn to injuries or even death in a heartbeat if you don’t be

careful, and make good choices. Safety guidelines for the

fourth of July: stay far back when popping fireworks, don’t

aim fire work at other people, don’t make bad choices, and

listen to the adults that are watching you. So be safe and

have a fun fourth of July!

Have you ever wondered why Father’s Day was founded in the first place? Well if you

want to know, I have the answer!

Father’s Day was first held on July 19, 1910 at a YMCA in Spokane, Washington. It was

founded by Sonora Smart Dodd in honor of her father who was a Civil War veteran, a sin-

gle parent, and had six children. She thought that fathers should have a day that they

are honored, just like mothers. After many failed attempts to establish Father’s Day, in

1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson officially made Father’s Day a holiday. Father’s Day is

always held on the third Sunday of June every year. This year, Father’s Day will be held

on June 21st.

Most fathers like a new set of golf clubs, a tool set, or hunting and fishing gear. So if

you’re looking for something for Father’s Day for someone, think of something that they

would really enjoy.

Where do you go on summer vacation? What are some of the hottest restaurants to visit? Well, in this article I will show you some of the best places to stay or tryout on your sum-

mer break! A few of the most frequently visited vacation sites in America include Orange Beach, Ala-

bama, New Braunfels, Texas, Charleston, South Carolina, Laguna Beach, California, and Perdido Key, Florida. Notice all of these top vacation spots are either near a lake or a beach, so that travelers can get their swim on!

A few attractions at these locations that guests participate in are activities like tubing, dancing, fishing, or even a chance to enjoy a dolphin cruise. All of these fun activities are

making me anxious for summer! Also some of the most popular fast-food/sit-in restaurants consist of Sonic, Dairy Queen, Sharky’s Seafood in Kingwood, the Stingaree in Crystal Beach, our very own Generations,

Gaidos, Pappas Bro. Steakhouse, and Hill Country Blue Bonnet Café. They serve mouth-watering meals and desserts that will make your tongue melt with joy. So if you are inter-ested in enjoying a great bite, then these are the places to go!

Places to go for summer

Do you know where the best places to go during the summer are? If you don’t I’ll,

tell you.

Summer is right around the corner, and if you want to cool down, from the summer

heat, you should go to Sea World, Splash town, Six Flags, Pirates Bay, Schlitterbahn, and

etc.

Now if you want to have fun, you should go to Disney World, Universal, Island of

Adventures, Disneyland, Hersheypark, and etc.

Finally, if want to go somewhere near you, you should go to the Houston Zoo, the

Space Center in Houston, the Galleria, San Jacinto Battleground, Downtown Aquarium,

or the beach.

Whether you’re at home or going on an amazing trip I hope you have an amazing

summer!

Fun Summer Recipes

We all know and love the Liberty Snow ball (the snow cone place). Every one’s been there and,

their snow cones are the best! I personally like sour it’s my favorite. You may have wondered

where snow cones came from, they were created during the industrial revolution people from up

north New York would send ice to Florida, Texas, and Nevada etc. on the trip kids would ask for

small shavings of ice. Mothers then started to make flavorings for them like egg custard, eventu-

ally developing in to the flavors we have today.

Summer is almost here! Here is a some crafty things you can make with food.

For an edible gunny painting: mix six and one fourth table spoons of water with one

envelope of unflavored gelatin. Add two table spoons of regular flavored gelatin in a

squeeze bottle that can withstand being dipped into boiling water. You can add differ-

ent colors or flavors of Jell-O so you’d have different colors to choose from. Let the gel-

atin and water mixture sit for ten minutes until it’s somewhat solid. Carefully dip each

bottle into hot water. Stir the gelatin until it’s fully melted and mixed. Then pop the

bottles into a refrigerator for about 20 minutes, checking every minute. When the

gummy mixture is thick but not solid, give the kids a plate and let them create their

own gummy designs. Let it sit for a few hours, or even overnight. Then have fun pilling

your gummy works of art off the plate.

There are plenty of things that you need to know about having fun, but also knowing how

to stay safe while doing it. Do things like having a get together with a bunch of your

friends from school, but make good choices on who you invite, and what you are going to

do there. During the summer, make sure that after you get done doing something, jump

in a pool, or take a cool shower that way you don’t overheat and get sick. I am sure that

you don’t mind taking a swim anyway!

To have an amazing summer, all you have to do is make good choices. If you make bad

choices, you may think that it’s fun in the moment, but afterwards, it will always come

back and get you. You see, if you make good choices during the summer, you can have

some major fun with family and friends, and not regret it in the end. No matter what the

situation, do not run by a pool. There is many things that could happen if you do. If you

are running by a pool, or a wet surface, you can fall and get seriously injured, or acci-

dentally knock into someone else and injure them. When going to the beach or just going

swimming in a pool in a friends backyard, you always need to put sunscreen on. Even if

you want to “get your tan on”, you need to put sunscreen on. Just put a weaker degree of

it on you. If you do not put sunscreen on when you are out in the sun, you could majorly

damage your skin and be in horrible pain for days. What’s easier? Don’t put sunscreen on

and suffer, or take a minute of your time and not be in pain? So whatever you do, DO

NOT forget to put sunscreen on.

So remember, have a fun filled summer, but stay safe!

Summer Do’s & Don’ts

Overall Year By: Giovanni Lopez

Although our football team, volleyball team, and basketball teams were short of

being District Champions, we had an excellent year here at Liberty Middle School. To

make things even more amazing, our 7th grade girls’ basketball team took home dis-

trict. Both our 8th grade boys and girls attended a tournament in Devers and they both

placed 1st in the tournament!!! During track season the 8th grade boys won district,

and I personally think we did absolutely amazing and worked our hardest!! It was truly

an incredible night.

UIL is one of the toughest competitions to win. It has been over a decade since

Liberty has taken home first place. We finally broke the streak this year and U.I.L was

held here in Liberty. Our students had a bunch of potential going into the competition.

Taking home first place was absolutely an unforgettable feat.

This year LMS’s One Act Play group took home first place, with their play “The

Patch Work Quilt.” This past year, Liberty was close to winning and taking first place,

but they came up short and received second place. This year they improved greatly and

proved that they are better than ever!

Algebra worked hard, studied hard, and showed their capability and it all paid

off. All of the Algebra students gave it their best and had a 100% passing rate!!! They

truly deserved it and made Mrs. Fitzpatrick a HAPPY teacher!!!

The teachers, coaches, and even I are happy for every student who contributed to

making this year an extravagant one!!! Everyone has made LMS look better. I always

knew that Liberty was capable of showing their best of their ability. I have great hopes

for the upcoming 6th, 7th graders and 8th graders. Thank you to everyone who made

this one of the best years!!!

Summer games

During the summer it gets very hot, so here are some games that will cool you off. There are many

games you can play in the pool, such as Marco Polo, water volleyball, etc. You can always have water

balloon fights, just remember when you play outside to wear sunscreen.

You can get your siblings together and go camping in the backyard, or even something simple like

build a fort out of covers in the living room. For those days, that you can’t go out, you can bring out the

game boards, or even play charades and have some friendly competition. On the windy nights, you can

get a cup of hot chocolate and make some s’mores.

Are you ready to get out of school and into summer? Do you know what you’re going to do? If not, I have

some really cool and fun things to do this summer!

Going to a concert this summer would be fun if you didn’t get the chance to go to one during the

school year. You could also just go to your local beach and collect seashells. Picnicking at your local

park would be a fun thing to do too. Going canoeing in a lake for a race or fishing would be a fun way to

pass time. Making things out of paper or origami would be a fun way to challenge your skills of paper

folding. Don’t want to go out for a pizza? No problem! Just make your own homemade pizza! Are you in

need of a quick buck? Make a lemonade stand, that’ll earn you some money quick and easy. Visiting a

museum or aquarium you haven’t been to would be fun and memorable. Going to an amusement park

or fair is a great way to spend time during the summer. The games would be fun and the food would be

delicious. Ever thought of roller skating this summer? Invite friends or family to go roller skating and

have a blast! Baking all kinds of delicacies this summer like cupcakes, muffins and cakes with your own

decorations would also be fun this summer. Cave exploring would be so much fun if you have the right

equipment. Last but not least to beat the heat, have a good old fashioned water balloon fight.

There are so many ideas and things to do this summer but I could only name a few, what are you

going to do this summer?
