As you can see from the survey below, most students felt they had effec- tive lessons during last year’s E-days. What makes an E-day lesson ef- fective? Here are some ideas: Staying with what you are currently doing in your class. You might have to switch a test date, but make an effort to stay on topic with the activities. Students have an excellent “busy work” detector. Being realistic about the time commitment. There is a fine line be- tween requiring too much time and not enough time. More to come on this topic. Having an activity to check for understanding. This helps with ac- countability. Communicating! All your planning is futile if it is not communicat- ed effectively to your students (and to parents). Com- municate clear expectations through Blackboard and through FriarNet e-mails to students and parents. Lowering the stress. There can still be time for fun. Being realistic about the time commitment. There is a fine line be-tween requiring too much time and not enough time. More to come on this topic.

Having an activity to check for understanding. This helps with ac-countability.

Communicating! All your planning is futile if it is not communicat-ed effectively to your students (and to parents). Com-municate clear expectations through Blackboard and through FriarNet e-mails to students and parents.
