Bitter Gourd: A Vegetable With Advantages
This is a vegetable also known as bitter melon or bitter squash, as the name implies it is
bitter in taste and looks like a cucumber with ugly gourd over it. This vegetable has two
main varieties long and small. Long grows to 20 cm and pale in color whereas small
grows to 10 cm and dark green in shade. Both of them have white seeds when they are
unripe and turn to red when ripe. This vegetable turns even bitter in taste when ripe
completely and color changes to reddish-orange. It is common in Asian countries due to
hot and humid climates. When treated with The Trivedi Effect® Bitter Gourds have
shown development in growth, the leaves were of even color, and the stem was fairly
robust. The plants were completely disease-free, and even the fruit was not confronted by
bugs.
Usually, people find it bitter in taste and difficult to consume. It is with precious nutrients

toxemia. Blend two ounces of bitter gourd juice with some fresh lime juice. Swallow that
mixture daily for six months with an empty stomach for better and improved health. Take
two teaspoon full of bitter gourd juice, mix it with onion and lemon juice, blend the
mixture and take it until you feel well. It helps in lowering sugar levels in blood and urine.
Regular consumption of bitter gourd has proven to improve the energy and stamina level.
It contains many beneficial properties, and that cleanses your body from toxins.
There are some consumption tips like choose unripe bitter gourd that are firm, avoid
taking ripe bitter gourd because they can be extremely bitter. Store them in the vegetable
bin with the right temperature in the refrigerator. Don’t keep bitter gourd with any other
fruits and vegetables, as it may hasten the gourd to ripen due to ethylene gas. Clean them
under the fresh running water and slice them lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. To
reduce the bitter taste, marinate them in salt water or yogurt for at least half an hour before
cooking or juicing.
There are some precautions for consuming bitter gourd in any form. One should not
consume more than two gourds in a day. Excessive consumption of bitter gourd may
increase the chances of diarrhea. Diabetic patients if consuming bitter gourd have to
check and alter the dosage of their drugs. Consult your doctor before consuming it on a
regular basis. Pregnant women should not consume bitter gourd as it can induce
contractions, bleeding and abortion.
There are many traditional methods used to reduce the bitterness of bitter gourd. Although
it seeds are discarded due to the alkaloid content, whereas it can also be consumed and
enjoyed in some Asian regions, like in Kerala it can stuffed and fried with tomato, green
chilies, garam masala and garlic.
