Snowboarding

Skid-Skid, Skid-Skid. Board running over ice

As I speed, speed, speed

Down the slope and like the wind. Swerving past other riders. Racing over the hard ice. Speeding down

Skid-Skid, Skid-Skid

Here and there

There and here

Suddenly digging into the snow. Skid-Skid, Skid-Skid

I suddenly fly, fly, fly

Into the air Thump-thump, crash-crash

I get back up

At least for now…

Bare Hands

We always build together. My friend and I Because we like the feel Of accomplishment Of projects. Rugged sticks, Sharp needles, Crunchy leaves, Smooth rocks. Even when it’s snowing, We build from the soft snow. Our bare hands Bitten from the frost. Even when it’s hot (which is hardly ever) We build civilizations. Our hands moving, Our hands swishing, 0 Through the air. Others don’t see what we do. Build teepees, In any weather. But we do. And we feel great. 4

Perspective

Poems, Poems, Poems One hundred little poems The first one was kind of sloppy. In which worried me. One day when I was out on the trampoline, I got inspired. And I thought Of an awesome adventure

That I could write down. And it would start With the end. And I thought how long it would take. I could make it short. I could make it long. I could make it fiction. This was the beginning of work.

Flip, Flip, Flip

Aidan was in the living room

Looking through photo albums In the light. With my mom. I see me when I was younger Sitting in our old house

Laughing. I see Aidan with a mess of a room

With a smile. It is easy to see

Us like this now. And I have a photo album To prove it.

Cody

Sometimes when I am outside

A boy appears Like he always does From the hill he emerges. Running

Yelling my name

Far away. Hey Brenden! He says. And I reply

And we run

Quick

And

Fast And

Against the wind. And we talk

Until we reach his house

And the trampoline

Where we jump.

It is hard to believe

That life has an end. Although it lasts forever. Because you never see anything

And never feel anything

And that’s fine. Sometimes I dream

That I can do anything

Away from reality

But sometimes One time I dreamed of horror A scary one

Frightening

But life

Coaxed me

And I felt better And when I woke up, Everything is alright.

Words & Trains Now my poems are better Because I'm using new words To help it be better Because they weren’t So good at first Like I said. I am getting the hang of words. A barrel of words I think. Awesome! Quick! Electroencephalograph! I love to use it. But it stops my mind

And I stop my train of thought But I keep on going

And soar through the words Fast. But I go back to

That train of thought SKREECH!!!! 9

Bored

I am bored

In my house

And so I try to think

And I try to memorize

And lock it in a safe

Somewhere in my brain

And I slide back into boredom

Trying to find a way out And hope that safe

Doesn’t have a lock.

My Brother and I stare at Pappy Standing on top the diving board We close our eyes, dive into the water Slowly moving, as we go back up. 3…2…1… I say As my brother braces for impact. I feel as if I am flying As bubbles surround me. While I come up. Breathe, breathe, breathe Pappy comes out of the water Soaking wet As we smile And I see trouble on the diving board As Aidan jumps into the air Splashing us with water. He swims back up, Hair soaking, As we all laugh.

Grammy She and I sit on the couch The blue, soft couch. As we wait our turn For wii bowling. I step up, pride filling me up. As I roll my ball. STRIKE! I give Grammy a High-five, As she steps up to the screen. CRASH! We both switch back and forth As we make our way through The ten frames. We are tied Neck in neck As I hold My final ball. I swing the remote through the air. STRIKE!

I sit back down, as Grammy uses her last ball. CRASH! A turkey. She has won yet again.

I do not know how I, once a baby became me.

I do not remember anything, but I have stories told to me.

But still, I don’t know how I grew up to be a filmmaker,

musician, and just plain out,

me. Beginning from end.

My friends, family, neighbors, everyone I know, all grew up this

way, but all came out different.

There are tapes, recordings, stories, but it is still unclear how

we became us.
