King Herod and the Wise Men looking for Jesus

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. shortly afterJesus's birth wise men came from the east

asking about Jesus so they could worship Him because they seen a special star that led

them to the Christ child. King Herod sought to find the Christ child and ordered his priests,

scribes, and all of the people to tell him where Christ was born.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold

there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem. Matt. 2:1

The wise men asked where Jesus was and referred to Him (Jesus) as the King of the

Jews

Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east

and are come to worship him. Matt. 2:2

King Herod was upset when he heard about the wise men asking about Jesus. All of

Jerusalem were troubled as Herod called the priests, scribes and all of the people together

and Herod demanded that they tell him where Christ would be born

When Herod the king heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Matt.

2:3

And when he had gathered al the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he

demanded of them where Christ should be born. Matt. 2:4

Jesus Christs birth was predicted in prophecy

The priests, scribes and all the people told Herod that Jesus's birth was prophesied and

according to this prophecy Jesus would be born in Bethlehem of Judaea.

And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, Matt.

2:5

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for

out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel Matt. 2:6

King Herod questions the Wise Men

King Herod questions the wise men about Jesus whereabouts and order's them to find

Jesus.He said that he only wanted to know where Jesus was so that he (Herod) could

worship Jesus while secretly King Herod had plans to kill Jesus and Herod ordered the

wise men to tell him when they find the young child.

Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what

time the star appeared. Matt. 2:7

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child

and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him

also. Matt. 2:8

The Wise men followed the star and find Jesus and they were filled with great joy

When they had heard the king, they departed and, lo, the star, which they saw in the

east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. Matt. 2:9

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Matt. 2:10

The wise men entered the house where Jesus and His mother Mary were and they fell

down to worship Him and gave Jesus gifts

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother,

and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they

presented unto him gifts: gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Matt. 2:11

God warned the wise men not to go back to Herod so they returned to their own

country on a different route

And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed

into their own country another way. Matt. 2:12

Joseph warned by the Lord in a dream to flee with Christ and His mother Mary

After the wise men left the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and told him to take Jesus

and Mary to Egypt and to stay there until He told him otherwise because Herod would try to

kill Jesus

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a

dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and

be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Matt. 2:13

Joseph obeyed the Lord and he left with them at night and by doing so he had fulfilled

the prophecy, "Out of Egypt have I called my Son

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into

Egypt: Matt. 2:14

Prophecy fulfilled again

And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the

Lord by the prophet saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Matt. 2:15

Herod was angry because he realized the wise men had deceived him and

ordered that all the children under the age of 2 slaughtered

Then Herod, when saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and

sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof,

from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of

the wise men. Matt. 2:16

Jeremy the prophet had previously prophesied of Rachel weeping for her children

and could find no comfort

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, Matt. 2:17

In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning,

Rachel weeping for her children and would not be comforted, because they are not. Matt.

2:18

After Herod died an angel of the Lord appears to Joseph and tells him to take Jesus

and Mary to Israel.

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph

in Egypt, Matt. 2:19

Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for

they are dead which sought the young child's life. Matt. 2:21

Joseph was still afraid because Herod's son now reigned in his place .

God warned Joseph in a dream so Joseph took them into Galilee and stayed in a city

called Nazareth to fulfill the prophecy that Jesus would be called a Nazarene

But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he

was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned

aside into the parts of Galilee: Matt. 2:22

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth that it might be fulfilled which was

spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene. Matt. 2:23
