Spring Trip

On this trip of 7 nights and 8 days, you can enjoy the splendor of spring in Extremadura. Only landscapes, colors and scents of nature worth. We will visit the various habitats of the central region of Extremadura, perhaps one of the best places in Europe for bird watching. The great diversity of habitats enable us to enjoy a number of species of birds difficult to observe in any other part of Europe. This will enable us to have to drive a few kilometers, so it will be a trip with a large content of sustainability. In addition, part of the income of your holiday will go to offset the carbon footprint we produce in our car journeys. We will visit open plains with cereal crops, steppes, dehesas, wetlands, mountainous terrain and plains. The Spring is the breeding season of resident birds and many species of birds from Africa and exclusives of the Iberian Peninsula. In our area of operation, we have surveyed at least 235 species on Spring, and in any case, will be relatively simple to reach 145 species in one trip of one week.

Day 1: Transfer from the airport (Seville, Madrid). Depending on the landing time of your flight, we can start enjoying spring Extremadura, from Seville airport,

visiting the banks of the Guadiana river from the Puente Romano de Merida, from which you can see Night Heron, Squacco Heron, Glossy Ibis, Purple Heron, Grey Heron , Great Egret, Bittern, Penduline Tit, Alpine Swift, Pallid Swift, etc. If the airport is Madrid, we can begin visiting the plains near Trujillo, where we will see steppe birds and birds of prey.

Day 2-7:

We will visit the plains near Campo Lugar, Natura 2000 Network by be steppe birds reserve such as Great Bustards, Little Bustards, Stone Curlews, Montagu’s Harriers, Black-Bellied Sandgrouse, European Rollers. But at the same time, we see Black Vultures, Griffon Vultures, Black Kite, Short-toed Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Red-Necked Nightjar, Calandra Lark, Short-toed Lark, Collared Pratincole, Red-Rumped Swallow, Bunting, Bee-eaters everywhere and etc. In coming to Santa Marta Trujillo and plains, we can also see Ganga Iberian and Iberian Imperial Eagle. Visit the National Park Monfragüe, very important for the conservation of two endangered species, the Black Vulture and the Spanish Imperial Eagle. In this park whose habitat is the Mediterranean forest, there is an important colony of Griffon Vulture, Crag Martin, Blue Rock Thrush, Red-rumped Swallow, Bonelli’s Eagle, Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, etc. may also be observed In the environment there are several wetlands Campo Lugar such Alcollarín Reservoir, Sierra Brava Reservoir and rice fields of Pizarro and Puebla de Alcollarín. In these wetlands, along with many species of ducks, we can see Spoobill, Great Egret, Purple Heron, Black Stork, Red Avadavat, Common Waxbill and many waders depending on the time and the water level. In all routes will accompany us Bee-eaters, Spanish Sparrows, Sandinian Warbler, Blue-Winged Magpies, we can see some Black-Winged Kite and Great-Spotted Cuckoo. The order in which we would develop these six days depend on your preferences and the weather.

Day 8: Return to the departure airport. Depending on the departure time, we could visit somewhere way to the airport. Accommodation: Accommodation will be in apartment for up to four persons. It includes breakfast and dinner; we will have the lunch on the field with

picnic. Hides: If any birdwatcher wants to watch or to photograph from any of our hides, will do it. (it depent of availability)
