Task Force Goals
Develop educational materials for the undergraduate ChE curriculum
Provide training opportunities for graduate students interested in biological systems research
Offer the Foundations of Systems Biology in Engineering (FOSBE) conference series
Increase the visibility of biosystems in ChE education

Frank, Mike, Juergen and Wayne to flesh-out initial ideas for modules.
Wayne: pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic models for subcutaneous delivery of insulin.
Mike: steady-state and dynamic modeling of the glycolytic pathway
Juergen: teaching modeling & numerical methods, systems biology

Teaching modules for ChE core curriculum Powerpoint lecture, simulation code, homework
assignment Place on CACHE website under “Biosystems”
Phase 1 5 modules to be developed by December 2013 Submit abstract to 2014 AIChE meeting
Phase 2 5 more modules to be developed by other task
force members by July 2014 Prepare submission for ChE Education by
December 2014 Phase 3 - develop mechanism for submission
of additional modules
