Tropical Rainforest

Description

• Specific Plant ( Bengal Bamboo) - It physically adapts to its environment by growing tall fast so it gets a lot of rain and sunlight.

• Specific Animal ( Pygmy Elephant) – These elephants have physically adapted in growing smaller to move around the rainforest easier than a full grown savanna elephant.

• Humans have affected this biome from clear cutting parts of the forest, decreasing some habitats for animals.

• Location↑

• The climate is very humid because of all the rainfall, which amounts to about 250 cm per year. The rain forest has lots of rain because it is very hot and wet. This climate is found near the equator.

• Temp Range – 93 & 63 degrees.

• Common Plants & Animals – Trees, bromeliads, epiphytes, lianas : Pygmy elephants, Bengal tigers, Chimpanzees, and vipers.

• Adaptations – Camouflage, eating food that isn’t eaten by other animals, and different movement

Temperate Deciduous Forests

Description

• Specific Plant (White Birch) - Birches are among the most recognizable of trees, both for their white bark and for their graceful, slightly drooping twigs.

• Specific Animal (Bald Eagle) – It can see 4 to 8 times more powerful than humans can, which allow it to gather food more effectively.

• Humans cut down trees for farm land, as well for rich farming land, decreasing some habitats for some organisms.

• Climate is a mix of temperature and precipitation. Deciduous forests have an average of 30 to 60 inches of rainfall each year.

• Avg Annual Temp – 50 Degrees• Common Plants & Animals – Lady

Ferns, Carpet mosses, White Oaks, White Birch, Pines : Coyote, Bald eagle, White-tailed deer, Eastern Chipmunk.

• Adaptations – Migration, Hibernation, and gathering seeds. ( Mostly squirrels and rodents)

Taiga

Description

• Specific Plant ( Black Spruce) – Has waxy needles and thick bark to protect from natural interference.

• Specific Animal ( Black Bear ) - They have rounded ears, a short stubby tail, and short claws that are useful in climbing trees.

• Humans affect the Taiga by over hunting the Deer population and running them out towards roads and factories.

• Location↑• The Taiga has a subarctic climate with

very large temperature range between seasons, but the long and cold winter is the dominant season.

• Temp Range – 70 degrees to -65 degrees.

• Common Plants & Animals –Pine trees, Spruce trees, Hemlock trees : Foxes, lynxes, Bears, Wolves.

• Adaptations – Many animals have thick coats to keep warm, Long legs to get through snow, big paws to compact snow and move easily.

Savanna

Description

• Climate is mild and moist, but not rainy. During the summer it is very hot and dry. The temperature is usually mild but it can get very hot or nearly freezing.

• Temp Range –30 to 100 degrees.

• Common Plants & Animals –Chamise Manzanita Artemisia California Sagebrush Ceonothus : Jackrabbit, Golden Jackal, Goat, Puma.

• Adaptations – Animals do not require much water to survive, adapted to hot types of weather, and agile climbers.

Chaparral
