The Spillage Kit is available in all the departments Contents of Biohazard Spillage Kit: 1. Aqueous germicidal Solution (1% hypoc hlorite solution 1 IN 4 PARTS DILUTION IN 5% HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION ) 2. Two pa irs of disposable latex glo ves 3. One Forceps 4. Three Biohazard bags with Closure 5. Tissue paper roll. Procedure: Notify all people working in the immediate area of the incident. Do NOT leave the area unattended. Collect the Biohazard Spillage kit IMMEDIATELY and return to the incident area. Wear the disposable gloves. With the Forceps pick up any sharps or broken glass (if any) carefully put them into the Biohazard Bag and seal. Saturate the spilled area with 1% hypochlorite solution and keep it for 10 minutes. Wipe up the area with the Tissue paper Roll. Put them into the Biohazard bag . Dispose immediately in compliance with regulatory requirements:- Note: Biohazard bag with sharps - into the puncture proof container. Tissue paper soaked with body fluids - into the Yellow Bag . BIO-HAZARD SPILLAGE CLEANING PROCEDURE & SPILLAGE KIT

Purpose:

In case of accidental leakage or spillage of Blood, Blood products, Fluids etc., clean the

biohazard material using the Spillage Kit.

The Spillage Kit is available in all the departments

Contents of Biohazard Spillage Kit:

1. Aqueous germicidal Solution (1% hypochlorite solution – 1 IN 4 PARTS DILUTION IN

5% HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION )

2. Two pairs of disposable latex gloves

3. One Forceps

4. Three Biohazard bags with Closure

5. Tissue paper roll.

Procedure: Notify all people working in the immediate area of the incident.

Do NOT leave the area unattended.

Collect the Biohazard Spillage kit IMMEDIATELY and return to the incident area.

Wear the disposable gloves.

With the Forceps pick up any sharps or broken glass (if any) carefully put them into the

Biohazard Bag and seal.

Saturate the spilled area with 1% hypochlorite solution and keep it for 10 minutes.

Wipe up the area with the Tissue paper Roll. Put them into the Biohazard bag.

Immediately following an exposure:

In cases of exposure to blood or body fluids, the following procedures should be followed:

  Do not suck the puncture site/pricked finger should not be put into mouth

reflexly.

  Rinse immediately under running water for 5-10 min.

  Do not scrub, Rinse and dry.

  Immediately inform to the concerned Department HOD of the incident.

Other types of Exposure

  Splashes to the nose, mouth or skin, should be flushed with plenty of water.

  Eyes should be irrigated with clean water and wash with eye wash equipment.

SHARP DISPOSAL

General Principles for handling & Dispose of Sharps:-

Avoid sharps usage wherever possible.

Do not bend or break needles by hand.

Sharps must not be passed directly from hand to hand.

Never leave sharps lying around; dispose them carefully.

Do not keep syringes, needles or any other sharp objects in pockets.

  NEVER RESEAT/RECAP USED NEEDLES.

Dispose the used sharp immediately into the puncture proof container.

LARGE SPILLAGE

Purpose:

In case of accidental leakage or spillage of Blood, Blood products, Fluids etc., amount when

more than 5 ml clean the biohazard material by pouring 5% Sodium Hypochlorite solution.

Procedure:

Notify all people working in the immediate area of the incident.

Do NOT leave the area unattended.

Collect the Biohazard Spillage kit IMMEDIATELY and return to the incident area.

Wear the disposable gloves.

With the Forceps pick up any sharps or broken glass (if any) carefully put them into the

Biohazard Bag and seal.

Saturate the spilled area with 5% hypochlorite solution and keep it for 30 minutes.

Wipe up the area with the Tissue paper or absorbent roll. Put them into the Biohazardbag (YELLOW BAG)

Dispose immediately in compliance with regulatory requirements

SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION PREPARATION PROTOCOL

1. Stock solution – concentrated 5.0%

2. To prepare 1.0% sodium hypochlorite :

a. One part of 5% conc. Solution

b. 4 parts of water.

3. To prepare 0.05% of sodium hypochlorite

a. 50 ml of 5% conc. Solution

b. 4950 ml of water.

1.0% sodium hypochlorite is used for spillage of small quantity (5 – 10ml), in sharp containers,

for machine waste containers, floor mopping.

0.05% sodium hypochlorite solution is used for work table cleaning, machine tops (outer
