Biomedical Science and Technology Cluster of UmbriaIn order to respond to economic structural change and market globalization, the central Italian region of Umbria’s government and medical industry have begun to consider new business models.

New policies have helped push structural long-term business partnerships which share expertise, skills, technology and new opportunities. Hence, with the endorsement of local administration (through Umbria Trade Agency) and promotion by Confindustria (Italy’s leading association of entrepreneurs), an association of highly specialized companies was formed: the Biomedical Science and Technology Cluster of Umbria. As a whole, the Cluster offers integrated products and services throughout the whole biomedical supply chain, accounts for a global annual turnover of Euro 200 million and employs some 2.000 staff.

DesignThe Biomedical Cluster of Umbria (BCU) can manage all phases of private/public sector hospital design. This includes redevelopment and modernization of existing structures. From feasibility studies and designs to executive blueprints, the cluster can also provide all technological components involved (e.g. mechanical, electrical and/or other special installments). The multidisciplinary expertise of the companies within the cluster allow for design of even the most technologically advanced hospital wards such as surgery rooms, intensive care and radiotherapy departments.
