SMART WASTEWATER SOLUTIONSCLEVER, EFFICIENT AND AFFORDABLE
3 Size SolutionsWe have a range of systems suitable for your home, regardless of the size.
• The ‘Fusion’ - our large all in one system caters for small to large dwellings. Designed for individual households of up to 5 bedrooms (10 people max. for periods of a few days).
• The ‘Mini’ (compact single tank system) - economical for the more modest dwelling, designed for households of up to 3 bedrooms (6 people max. for periods of a few days). The maximum volume of wastewater processed in any 24 hour period is 1200l.
• The ‘Cube’ - ideal to upgrade/retrofi t to existing septic tanks, can also be purchased alongside a new septic tank to suit individual site requirements. Designed for individual households of up to 5 bedrooms (10 people max. for periods of a few days). The maximum volume of wastewater processed in any 24 hour period is 2000 litres.
• We ‘Custom Design’ systems for many homes requiring higher loadings. Contact us with your design queries.
A manual is available for each system. The manual outlines the operation of the system, specifi cations for council and provides a guide for proper care and maintenance of the system.
Commercial systemsEcocycle can size and design modular wastewater treatment systems to suit your requirements. We have successfully installed systems in pre-schools, schools, campgrounds, reserves, Maraes and in an accommodation complex in the luxurious Maldives.
We provide a complete service backed by proven technology and results. Our custom solution includes: • Free advice • Site and system design engineering • Project management • Telemetry optionsThe end result is a wastewater treatment system that delivers years of continuous, hassle free operation.
*Note: Design fl ows for individual household treatment systems are calculated on the basis of likely maximum fl ows from a household, rather than average fl ows for households. Design fl ows suggested in the AUS/NZ 1457-2012 Standard are 140-220 litres per person per day, depending on the type of water supply and whether there are water conservation plumbing fi xtures or additional plumbing fi xtures in the dwelling. In most cases, households will generate less wastewater than the recommended design fl ows; in a few instances, households may generate more wastewater than the recommended design fl ows.
4Ready for InstallationAll systems arrive on site complete and ready to be installed by your certifying drain layer(or one of our recommended installers, if required). Our simple controller ensures your system is up and running immediately with telemetry options (offsite monitoring) available if required.
A registered electrician is required to connect the system to a power source correctly. All instructions are provided in manuals.

Ecocycle’s Recirculating Packed Bed BiofilterEcocycle’s wastewater treatment systems use a compact Recirculating Packed Bed Biofilter (RPB), Recirculating Packed-bed Biofilters are a state-of-the-art evolutionary development of Recirculating Sand Filter plants (or, more generically, Recirculating Granular-media Biofilter plants). The technology is well known for reliably delivering aerobic advanced-secondary treatment of wastewater.
Ecocycle’s RPB treatment systems are an innovatively-engineered example of a RPB type system, used for single-dwelling situations and with slight adjustment, commercial situations. Ecocycle’s RPB treatment systems are particularly useful in situations where flows/loads are highly variable, only minimal operation and servicing effort can be expected, but where high treatment efficiency and reliability are none- the-less required.
RPB’s have a number of advantages -
• They are reliable, having few moving parts (the tipper loading system and the final effluent distribution pump),
• The technology is fail-safe and has the added advantage of low power usage.
• Passive. They handle shock loading without any issues, and can thus be relied upon to deliver good quality effluent regardless of whether the flow rate is constant.
• Biofilters have a great track record of excellent, constant effluent quality.
Superior Water TreatmentEcocycle has taken part in the prestigious OSET National Testing Program based in Rotorua proving results lower than a 10/10 standard which is signifi cantly better than the 20/30 standard BOD and Suspended Solids required by the AUS/NZ Standards 1546.3 On-site wastewater treatment units.

6Ecocycle’s Water TreatmentProcess1. Primary treatment occurs in the septic tank chamber. An outlet fi lter ensures particles larger than 1mm do not pass out of this chamber.
2. Filtered primary wastewater fl ows into the packed bed biofi lter, dose loaded by a tipper valve where the wastewater undergoes aerobic biological treatment as it trickles down through the biofi lter coming into contact with the microbial biofi lm that adheres to the packed bed biofi lter. Retention time allows, micro-organisms to react and absorb waste constituents, most of the BOD is removed.
3. Treated wastewater accumulates in the recirculation / discharge chamber and is intermittently recycled back over the packed bed biofi lter, mixing treated water with fi ltered primary wastewater.
4. The alternating fl ooding and draining from the bottom of the packed-bed biofi lter causes ventilation of the biofi lter keeping the air in it fresh and the biofi lm aerobic.
5. When fi ltered wastewater enters the outfl ow chamber, the treated wastewater at the bottom of the packed-bed biofi lter is discharged to the drip line irrigation system or other disposal system.
Ecocycle’s treatment process has been designed and developed:
1. to avoid the need for noisy, costly air blowers which introduce air into the tanks artifi cially
2. using our own unique tipper technology resulting in a passive treatment system.
Combined, these features result in low maintenance and operational costs for the end user.
Average Power Consumption of an Ecocycle Treatment SystemResults from the On-site Effl uent Treatment National Testing Program (OSET NTP) show the plant requires only .2 to .3kw per day equating to an average cost of $3.00 per month.
GuidelineOur wastewater systems are very easy to maintain and substantially more ef cient than other systems, easily adjusting and adapting to your requirements. Extra temporary guests or an extended period of occupant absence will not interfere or harm the biological processes, the system maintains itself and will resume normal functioning when the building or residence is once again occupied.
All wastewater treatment systems need on-going maintenance, including Council reticulated systems and on-site wastewater treatment systems.
When correctly used and well maintained your Ecocycle wastewater treatment system will give you years of trouble-free operation.
Just like your car or ride on mower routine maintenance is essential to optimise the performance of your system, increase the lifespan of the product and reduce effects on the environment.
What you put down your drain will impact how much maintenance your system will need.
It is important that you follow some simple do’s and don’ts for the smooth operation of your wastewater treatment system.
This not only protects your system but helps protect the environment too.
The good• Be water smart and conserve water. Excessive water use reduces the retention time in your wastewater treatment system and could overload the irrigation to land.
• Use biodegradable soaps and cleaners and wherever possible use phosphate free or low phosphorus based laundry detergents.
• Check your cleaning products to see if they are suitable for your wastewater system. [Check out our list of environmentally friendly or natural cleaning solutions on our website www.ecocycle.co.nz]
• Scrape all plates and dishes to remove as much fat and grease as possible. A tip is to wipe them with paper towels and place paper towels in the rubbish bin.
• Quickly fi x any leaky taps as soon as possible.
• Ensure a good vegetative cover is maintained in the area of your irrigation system We can advise what plant and vegetation is best. Wherever possible we recommend native plants.
• Direct all surface water away from the irrigation system, including roof drains and lawn sprinklers.
7
• Direct all surface water away from the irrigation system, including roof drains and lawn sprinklers.
8The bad• Never pour toxic or strong chemicals or cleaners down any drains. This includes bleach, fuels, paints, thinners, grease, oil, chemical drain cleaning products, weed or insect killers, drugs, chlorine cleaners or disinfectant based products.
• Don’t use large amounts of cleaning products.
• Don’t empty large quantities of water into the system all at once, such as from swimming and spa pools.
• Don’t let rainwater into the system.
• Don’t fl ush solids down the toilet other than standard toilet paper. Onsite wastewater treatments systems are not designed to handle cigarette butts, condoms, wet wipes, paper towels, nappies, feminine hygiene products, dental fl oss, bandaids, etc.
• Don’t put coffee grinds or tea bags down the sink.
• You should keep vehicles or livestock away from the land irrigation system.
Owners must read and retain a copy of the system manual. All wastewater treatment systems require servicing up to twice a year. We advise owners to enter into our ‘cost saving’ maintenance contract.
