Biography Pathfinder 2017 How to get to and search the Biography In Context Database-

1. Go to the library’s website.

2. Select LCPS GO from our menu.

3. Sign into LCPS GO.

4. Select Library Resources.

5. This will show you all the Library Online Resources given by LCPS.

6. Scroll down until you find “GALE – All Gale Databases.” (It looks like a paper

whirlwind.)

7. All the Gale Databases will appear on this page.

8. Select Biography In Context to get to the Biography Database.

9. Now you can search for your person! Type in the search bar the name of your person.

10. You may also conduct an advanced search if you would like to use more than one search

term or find a specific publication.

11. OR you can browse Biography In Context by viewing their categories (very similar to

how RBMS library organizes their biographies): Artists, Native Americans, Renaissance,

Scientists, World Explorers, World Royalty, Writers, Young Adult Writers, and more.

12. After searching your person, you will have a general description of your person and

various options to select. Such as Biographies, Images, Audio, Academic Journals, a

Factbox, and more.

13. Remember: Databases cite the content for you!

14. Select one of the Biographies.

15. Look for the Tools section on the left hand side and the Citation Tools icon will be there

to help you cite it!

How to search the Biography.com website –

1. Go to Google and type in Biography.com

2. Biography.com is organized by People, Nostalgia, Celebrity, History & Culture, and

Crime & Scandal.

3. To find your person quickly: Scroll down to the search box and type the person’s name.

4. OR you can browse by selecting the categories at the top of the screen.

5. After searching the person’s name, many results will come up.

6. Select one of the biography options to find information about your person.

7. There are many features for you to look at:

a. View Quick Facts about your person on the left-hand side.

b. Scroll down you will find a table of contents where you can view information

about your person’s life.

c. Lastly, scroll all the way down to view the Citation Information.

8. You will need to format your citation in the MLA style. Therefore, Go to Purdue OWL:

a. Select Electronic Resources from the left-hand side.

b. Scroll down to viewing how to do the Basic Style for Citations and

citing “A Page on a Web Site.”

Now you are ready to research Biographies!
