Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot

Car´s inventor

The first steam vehicle (1769) is the "Fardier" created by Nicolas Cugnot.

(Void-Vacon, France, September 25, 1725 - Paris, October 2, 1804) was a

French inventor whom the French government attributes the invention of

the first self-propelled vehicle or automóvil. This claim is disputed by several

sources that suggest instead that Ferdinand Verbiest, a member of the

Jesuit missions in China was the first to build a steam car around 1672.2 3

Cugnot received instruction as a military engineer. Models tested for

vehicles powered by steam engines for the French Army, intended to drag

heavy guns, a task that began in 1765.

Cugnot seems to have been the first to transform the forward-backward

motion of a steam piston into rotary motion. In 1769 got it to work a version

of its Fardier à vapeur ("steam car"). The following year he built an improved

version.

In 1885 he created the first motor vehicle internal combustion engine with

gasoline.

One of the most distinctive inventions of the twentieth century was

undoubtedly the car. these vehicles began to be seen as something

"useful".

The history of the automobile through the three phases of the major means

of propulsion: steam, electricity and gasoline.

John Paul II was acclaimed as one of the most influential leaders of

the 20th century. He is credited with helping to end Communist rule in

his native Poland and eventually all of Europe.[1] John Paul II

Islam, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Anglican Communion.

129 countries during his pontificate.

centuries.

On 19 December 2009, John Paul II was proclaimed venerable by his

successor Pope Benedict XVI and was beatified on 1 May 2011 after

the Congregation for the Causes of Saints attributed one miracle to

him, the healing of a French nun from Parkinson's disease. A second

miracle, attributed to the late pope, was approved on 2 July 2013 and

Agnes found her calling at an early age, and by 1928 had already decided that

she was destined to religious life. It was then decided to change its name to

"Teresa" in reference to the patron saint of missionaries, Therese of Lisieux. He spent

Herbert James Draper

(1863 – 22 September 1920) was an English Classicist painter whose

career began in the Victorian era and extended through the first

two decades of the 20th century.

1894 was the beginning of Draper's most productive period. He

focused mainly on mythological themes from ancient Greece. His

painting "The Lament For Icarus" from 1898 won the gold medal at

the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900 and was later bought for

the Tate Gallery by the Chantrey Trustees. He was also responsible

for the decoration of the ceiling of the Drapers' Hall in the City of

London. Though Draper was neither a member nor an associate of

the Royal Academy he took part in the annual expositions from 1890

on. In later years as the public tastes changed and mythological

scenes became less popular he concentrated more on portraits.

During his lifetime Draper was quite famous and a well known

portrait painter. In his last years his

popularity faded, though there has

recently been a revival of interest in his

work on the art market. The sale of his

painting The Sea Maiden by the Royal

Cornwall Museum in 2010, to help secure its finances, generated

debate about the policy of disposing of art works for this purpose.
