TEACHING PROGRAM

Undergraduate Course RLEM 305 – Watershed Analysis and Planning (3 Credit Hours): This course provides an intro-duction to watershed planning and addresses the biophysical, social, and economic issues affecting water resources. It is broad in scope and approach, but comprehensive: students not only are taught tools and techniques for developing sound watershed-management policy and practice, but also in-teract with and learn about agencies and professionals engaged in watershed-planning activities. RENR 400 – The Ecology and Human Dimensions of Biodiversity and Eco-Tourism in South-ern Africa (6 Credit Hours): A month-long study abroad course focusing on conservation issues and sustainability in South Africa and Botwana. The course has been taught since 2002 and I par-ticipated as an instructor in 2009. Graduate Courses ESSM 635-600 – Ecohydrology (3 Credit Hours): This course provides in-depth coverage of hy-drologic processes at the landscape level and examines the role of land use (in particular, vegeta-tion and vegetation management) in the hydrologic cycle. Emphasis is given to contemporary issues and challenges in hydrology related to scaling, spatial variability, and ecological interactions. ESSM 635-700 – Ecohydrology (3 Credit Hours): On-line version of the on-campus version de-scribed above. RLEM 681 – Graduate/Faculty Seminar (1 Credit Hour): This special topics seminar was devel-oped in the spring of 2002, focusing on water issues of rangelands. A second seminar was added in the fall of 2006, on ecosystem management. In each case, leading ecologists and hydrologists pre-sented a series of lectures open to the University.
