Modular System for Production of Heating, Cooling and Electricity using Ejector-Boosted Absorption (TRIGEN)-132401
Funded by Innovate UK
October 2016 to September 2017
Project Idea
TIGEN system in the range of 50-100 kW for decentralized applications of energy production.
TRIGEN is a Combined Cooling, Heating and Power (CCHP) system
The TRIGEN project addresses the three “trilemma” targets of cost reduction, reduction of emissions and security of supply.
Power Heating
Cooling
The TRIGEN project addresses the three “trilemma” targets of cost reduction, reduction of emissions and security of supply.
Novel concept design which will take advantage of the direct generation of vapour
TRIGEN will allow a non-renewable primary energy consumption reduction of 30% if compared to conventional generation.
Project Scope
Ability to operate in a broader operating window due to its collector design, ejector booster and possibility of using alternative heat sources
Estimated potential emissions reduction is about 885 M– 1,294 M ton of CO2 only for EU-29.
Estimated cost reduction of 30%, costs of thermal fluid circuit are avoided
The technology is flexible to integrate with the biomass CHPs; increasing the uptake of biomass and integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) systems

What’s Innovative about it?
Next Actions!
Manufacturing process developments for solar thermal collectors, absorption heat
pump, cooling and thermal storage offering an cost-effective solution to achieve an
integrated compact Tri-generation system at pilot-scale
Expansion of solar thermal technology to wider application ranges, both domestic
and commercial solar heating, cooling and thermal storage
Large absorption machines manufacturing, Thermo-solar power plant design
Potential partnership involving National energy agency and public/private operators,
