AWARENESS PROGRAMS 

Dr. Nerli works with many non-governmental organizations in the field of health,

environment and society. He co-ordinates and organizes lectures, seminars and dialogues

to create awareness of the environment, health and development in S&T among medical

college students, policy makers, administrators and the general public across Karnataka.

 FREE HEALTH AND UROLOGY CAMPS

Dr. Nerli conducts free health and urology camps at Jamakhandi on a monthly and regular basis. These camps are held to offer good urological care to the poor and needy. Similar camps are held in Ankola, Nipani, Athani and Khanapur as and when organized by the local doctors.

RESEARCH MENTOR Dr. Nerli is the recognized research guide for various research degrees awarded by KLE University, Belgaum and Vinayaka Mission University, Salem. He has also evaluated number of dissertations and thesis.

CAREER PLANS

I wish to utilize my experience and skills accumulated in India and Overseas to work in

centers of excellence. My special interests are Robotic / Endoscopic Urological surgery,

Reconstructive Urology, Pediatric Urology, Uro-Oncology and Renal Transplantation. I

have found my work experience in the Overseas professionally and academically

rewarding and I would look forward to opportunities to gain further experience in the US

in Urology and Renal Transplantation.

I am also motivated to visit various reputed urological centers overseas and participate in

International Urological Meetings to update the advances in Urology and Renal

Transplantation.

MOBILE LITHOTRIPSY SERVICES TO RURAL AND SEMIURBAN AREAS OF

NORTH KARNATAKA

Dr Nerli established the first mobile lithotripsy services in north Karnataka in the year 2002.

Dornier state of the art Lithotripsy machine was installed in a van so that it could be taken to

near and far areas to offer the services of lithotripsy at rural and semi-urban areas of north

Karnataka and Goa. This lithotripsy units crosses and covers Belgaum, Bagalkot and Karwar

districts. Centres in Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, Jamakhandi, Mudhol , Gokak are covered by this

unit . The charges are at concessional rates to help the poor and needy.

POSTDOCTORAL COURSE IN UROLOGY

Department of urology J N Medical College, Belgaum was the first Dept in north

Karnataka to start the postdoctoral course in any superspeciality subject. The Medical

Council of India team headed by Dr Ashok Hemal inspected the dept and found the

facilities adequate enough to start the M.Ch program in Urology in the year 2001. The

first candidate Dr Manohar Shetty was admitted to the program based on his performance

in the interview. The Dept of Urology under the chair of Dr R B Nerli has grown since

then. Till date 5 candidates have passed out with good result. The M.Ch candidates are

admitted to the program based on the results of All India open entrance examination

conducted by the university.

The M.Ch candidates under the guidance of Dr Nerli have presented numerous

scientific papers at various national and international conferences. They have also

published numerous scientific papers in various journals of repute. The students who

Ph D PROGRAMME UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF DR R B NERLI

Dr Nerli has been appointed as the guide for Ph D programs by KLE University Belgaum

and as well as Vinayaka Mission University Salem Tamil Nadu . Mrs Bindu has

registered herself as a student in 2008 under the guidance of Dr Nerli and she will be

doing her research on the Study of placenta in children with hypospadias. This will be a

basic research study which will throw light on the etiology of this common urological

congenital anomaly. The results of this study may be able to identify preventable causes.

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME IN PEDIATRIC UROLOGY

Dr Nerli has started the program of Fellowship in Pediatric Urology under the activities

of KLE University in March 2008. This program was started with the objective to

produce highly competent manpower in the field of Pediatric Urology. This one year

fellowship after MCh in Urology or Pediatric surgery trains these surgeons at

postdoctoral level to be competent to deal with clinical conditions in these children.

FIRST RENAL TRANSPLANTATION UNIT ESTABLISHED IN NORTH

KARNATAKA

Dr. Nerli is responsible for the first renal transplantation unit at KLES Dr. Prabhakar

Kore Hospital & MRC in north Karnataka. Till now many successful transplantations

have been done under able guidance of Dr. Nerli.
