Term 3 Week 7-8
Dear Parents and Community
Members of Binjour Plateau State
School, Although there are only a couple of weeks left of
school, it has been a very progressive term.
I especially have noticed our awesome Prep stu-
dents and how far they have come. This term
they have really embellished their learning and it
is showing.
Coming up in Week 9-10
Principal Away
In week 9, the I will be away on a variety of Pro-
fessional Developments. This will involve planning
and moderation, to ensure the work that is being
marked is being marked fairly and consistently.
Additionally, a follow up Principal PD from the be-
ginning of the year(Wednesday to Friday). Joni-
na Deen will be replacing on Tuesday and
Wednesday, then Mrs Toms and Mrs Moorrees will
do their usual days.
Additionally, if any incidents occur during the
time away, please ensure you contact the staff
on that day. Otherwise, I am also available on
the school mobile if you need to discuss the con-
cern if a common ground was not reached.
Homework Policy
A Binjour Plateau State School homework policy
has been developed for families perusal. The pol-
icy has considered feedback from the survey at
the beginning of the term and also developmen-
tal policy. I welcome any feedback that you
have to ensure our homework policy suits Binjour
students.
Project Club
Remember the movie night is on tonight (7th Sep-
tember). Well done to our project club and Mrs
Callahan who have been working hard towards
the organisation of it all. We look forward to this
evening! See you there!
Uniforms: New Supplier (P&C)
From the uniform poll, we have gone with the
majority supplier. Before an order is placed, we
would like to gauge with families who is interested
in purchasing uniforms and which sizes. On page
5 the order form is attached. If you could please
complete this and return it back to school as
soon as possible so the P&C is able to place an
order.
Arbour Day (Tree Planting)
Our tree planting day will take place on Friday
the 19th of October, term 4. The Oppermann
family will be kindly donating a citrus and the Pro-
ject Club have requested a Blood Orange. More
information will follow in the next newsletter.
Prep-2 Poetry Rehearsal for Assessment
Next week, Prep-2 will be given a poem to prac-
tise at home for their final English assessment task.
Students will have time to practise during school
time, however it is an opportunity for families to
assist their child in becoming familiar with the po-
em and to also practise their volume, tone, ges-
tures and facial expressions, that match with their
chosen poem. Students are more than welcome
to get into character for their poem, these will be
presented on Monday the 17th of September.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parents will receive a note home next week to
choose a date and time that suits to discuss their
child’s learning and next steps. Please feel free
to email or return the form back to school before
Friday 14th September.
If you have any questions, feedback or concerns
regarding your child’s learning or about the
school, I am always happy to discuss these. I am
available via phone or email. If you wish to meet
with me, I am available in the mornings before
and also in the afternoons.
Thank you for your support and have a great
week!
Louella Lodewyk
Teaching Principal
English In Prep to 2 this week, students have completed
their poetry comprehension task. For the next fort-
night, students will be completing their final task
of presenting a poem to their class. The poem
they have chosen will be going home at the be-
ginning of Week 9.
Year 4-6 students have been drafting their narra-
tive poem, in preparation for their multimodal
transformation. Additionally, students have been
reviewing complex sentences.
Maths Preps this week, have been consolidating their
learning of the numbers 1-20, they have also
been introduced to adding single digit numbers.
The year 1/2 students have been introduced to
fractions (halves, fourths and eighths). Addition-
ally, students have been consolidating their learn-
ing of three digit numbers.
Digital Technology
Over the past fortnight, students in Prep-2 have
been collecting various types of data and dis-
playing it using the software, Microsoft Excel. In
the next couple of weeks, students will be collect-
ing their own choice of data to input into their
graph and display this on Microsoft OneNote (a
sharing space on our school network that stu-
dents can only access).
Year 4-6 students have been identifying parts of a
network and binary code to understand how the
messages travel from the computer to the printer.
Science and Health Over the past couple of weeks, students have
been completing and finalising their assessment
tasks.
HASS (Geography) and The Arts In the past fortnight students have been looking
at the voting system and items in the past and
present.
In Art, students have been viewing and respond-
ing to sculpture, understanding papier Mache
and relief art.
5 Questions for students (Year 4-6) The following five questions guide the teach-
er and the students as to how they doing
with their English assessment task. It also dis-
plays how assessment literate the students
are and where the teacher nexts steps, in or-
der to continue to develop their assessment
literacy. Below are the responses given when
asked the 5 Questions.
‘What are you learning in English?’
We are learning creating a multimodal
transformation from a narrative text ‘How are you going?’
Good I think. ‘How do you know?’
I am understanding the questions and
the GTMJ.
For example using language to con-
vey meaning which means you need
to use different language for different
parts of your story. ‘What can you do to improve?’
Go back to my work and read the
feedback Mrs Lodewyk has given me.
For example some thinking questions
‘How is this historical?’ ‘Where can you go for help?’
Mrs Lodewyk, GTMJ, The learning wall
and my previous work.
CURRICULUM
Reading– What we are learning!
Our reading sessions, what they look like!
Students are based in reading groups of sim-
ilar reading levels. Each staff member has
an assigned group of students and a lev-
elled text. Four 20 minutes sessions are pro-
vided over the week. Each session has a dif-
ferent focus that looks at the type of text
they are reading, the purpose of the text
and the audience it appeals most to. Addi-
tionally, students reading is listened too dur-
ing each session, while also going through
comprehension skills.
Week 7 and 8 Year to Date
Attendance One priority target for 2018 is to achieve and maintain an average of 90%. Please remember to inform the school via text, email or phone call if your child is going to be away.
