“On Tuesday 7th July Ford First School celebrated the Queen’s 90th Birthday in style. Wewere delighted to be joined by a lovely group of visitors from the villages who turned out in

their finery to be served a delicious cream tea by the ever-generous and talented PTA. Thechildren played party games in the sunshine all dressed in red, white and blue and then sang GodSave the Queen..Lord and Lady Joicey very kindly attended and Lord Joicey delighted the children by presentingthem all with a commemorative gift, also provided by the PTA. They laughed when he said he canactually claim to have been at the Coronation (because he was in his Mum’s tummy!).

Our older children took the opportunity to interview our more senior guests about their memories of Ford school and ofprevious Royal occasions. It was a really delightful afternoon for our children, staff, families and guests and the childrenhave been delighted to receive so many thank you cards which are displayed in school.”

As the sun belted down visitors flocked to Etal once again tospend the day watching the Heavy Horses going through

their paces.

The organisers were delighted with the appearance of youngsterstaking a huge part within the event. Little Katie Willey won theClydesdale Societies Young Handler as well as receiving theShow Reserve Champion with Bencannon Duchess. Quite a sightto see this little girl taking command of this huge 18-hand horse.

John Fairbairn Jnr delighted crowds with his showing of MarshallMeadows Lady Emily - 5-week-old Shire foal, under the watchfuleye of Bill and his father. To the organiser’s surprise childrenwatching the event were not going to be left out, and as TheNorthumbrian Police Horses demonstrated their skills, this wasfollowed by a short game of football with the children.

Around the show field there was an array of differentdemonstrations including the working horses that displayed anumber of old working implements that were from the collectionthat is displayed at Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre.

Many visitors took part in learning of old skills demonstrationsand had hands on experience of leatherwork and greenwooddemonstrating. One demonstrator would have preferred the dayto have been a lot cooler as the area rang out all day of metalbeing worked into shoes.

The organisers would like to thank everyone that helped withrunning the event and of course a huge thank you to those whovisited. Now work starts for the Looking Back event on 8th &9th October dedicated to the working horse.
