BIM (Building Information Modelling) is the digital

representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a

building. BIM allows enhanced collaboration of a projectsdesign team and delivers efficiencies, contributing to the

overall success of a project.

This takes the form of a 3D model containing ‘families’ that

represent physical items; from a window or door through to all

types of complex products. The project file acts as a shared

source of building information data, used from project initiation

all the way through to a facilities life-cycle management.

entire projects.

1. Select the Revit family (.rfa) you wish to download:

corresponding (.txt) file.

Using the Revit Family Files



1. Open the selected Revit family.

2. Navigate to the ‘Manage’ tab and click on the ‘Materials’

icon.

3. In the ‘Material Browser’ click on the icon and selectthe option ‘Open Existing Library’. Select the (.adsklib) file andload it into the browser.

4. Select the materials you wish to use and edit theirproperties. In the ‘Appearance’ aspect ensure the image isrouting to the specific (.jpeg) file from the download JPEG’s

with the same name.

5. Once you have the desired materials load the family intoyour current project.

Please note: All jpegs are named accordingly to theircorresponding material in Revit.

1. Upload your Revit content to your company website:

We recommend creating a dedicated BIM Section on yourwebsite with thumbnail images of each product against each

family download link where appropriate. You may also wish to

consider website optimisation to drive Google and other search

engines to your business.

Create an account and host your families on these sites for

free. These three sites are the most popular within the BIM

community for free file downloads.
