We are aware that you are all extremely busy and would like to help, but cannot commit to every week. With this in mind, at our information afternoon we decided to place a ’sports helpers’ sheet on the outside of the classroom, so that you can write your name down if you can help out that week.

This term, our unit for Literacy is called ‘Make Believe’. We are studying the following books; Green Eggs & Ham, The Gingerbread Man and Who Sank The Boat? We will be looking at rhyming words, punctuation and drawing connections between real life and make believe.

2/3 Class News

Years 2/3 have been working very hard in class. We have been reading ‘The Paper Bag Princess’ and discussing our favourite part of the book and the different personalities of the characters. The students have greatly enjoyed this story. We are learning Indonesian instructions. The students are picking up the language very quickly. We will soon be learning to count in Indonesian and will be learning some traditional songs.

Homework will begin this week. We have spent time in class in week 3 getting students used to the homework routine. If you have any questions regarding homework at any time, please contact me to clarify any questions you may have.

Reading groups will begin this week. They will take place from 10:50 - 11:25am Monday - Wednesday. It may take the students a few weeks to settle into new routines and using new resources. Students across years 2 - 6 will have the opportunity to read with Mr Hynds and myself throughout the course of the year. Thank you to those parents who have offered to read with our students during this time.

News days: Students have been placed in news groups. Initially news will be informal and free choice. Later in the term students will be given topics to prepare short speeches to present to the class.

Monday: Ariarn, Alana, Joel and Samuel Tuesday: Sasha, Nikola, Zak and Brayden Wednesday: Abby, Beau, Harry and Lachlan Thursday: Aliza, Jahvis and Mitchell Friday: Dion, Layla and Damon

Munch and Crunch: During each morning session students are given a munch and crunch break to eat a healthy piece of fruit or small portion of vegetables to help sustain them until first break. The break will usually be taken during a session when I am reading to them, allowing them to relax and reboot! If you are able to pack a little extra healthy food in your child’s lunch box so that they can participate in this program, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to contact the office if you need to see me about any concerns you may have about your child. Mrs M Mackie

4/5/6 Class News

Our classroom routines are well underway and the children have settled into them well. Thank you to parents who have been assisting in getting their children organised with the required classroom equipment and also purchasing textbooks.

The children will be completing their first full weeks homework this week including mentals. This also means our spelling routine will also be in full swing.

Our reading groups will commence this week. We are always happy to have parent helpers, so please let us know if you are available any week, even if it’s not every week. We would love to see you.

Maths topics using our textbooks have commenced. Topics for the next fortnight are place value, fractions, addition, subtraction and length.

In Science we have commenced our unit on micro-organisms and have started to learn about those that help us and those that do not.

Well done to the children in my class who competed at the Small Schools Swimming Carnival last week, we are very proud of your effort.

Mr A Hynds
