is to ensure that our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and

great, great grandchildren have clean, healthy areas in which to play.

Not only do we choose earth friendly materials, but we also implement green practices that improve the environmental sustainability of our manufacturing process. We are proud

that our manufacturing facility in Fort Payne, Alabama is ISO 14001 certified. This certification specifies the requirements of

our environmental management system (EMS).

Why provide shade on playgrounds? According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), approximately 1 out of every 5 children in the United States will grow up to have some form of skin cancer. One blistering sunburn can double a child’s lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. Most children accumulate between 50% and 80% of their lifetime sun exposure before age 18, so it’s important to provide shade wherever possible.

The AAD recommends that breathable shade fabric that provides 93% or more UV protection (UPF 15) be used over playgrounds along with “continuous shade designs” as opposed to shade created through multi-panel, sail type designs.

Engineered Wood FiberSurface Sure’s Engineered Wood Fiber is specifically designed and engineered per the ASTM standard for impact attenuation on playground surfaces. BigToys recommends periodic maintenance

including adding fiber as needed to maintain the required depth. When compacted, Surface Sure Engineered Wood Fiber meets the ASTM standard specification for determination of ADA accessibility of surface systems for playgrounds.

Shredded RubberSurface Sure’s Shredded Rubber is an extremely durable surfacing option that also provides great impact attenuation. Made from clean, shredded recycled rubber that is wire-free. Shredded Rubber is easily installed and doesn’t decompose. This innovative surfacing option is available in five colors.

TileWe offer Interlocking Tiles and Standard Tiles (individually glued to subbase) to meet your site specific needs. Tile surfacing allows for easy replacement of small areas of surfacing. Premium multi-colored tiles, custom edging options and ADA accessible ramp tiles are also available.

Bonded RubberSurface Sure’s Bonded Rubber products consist of clean recycled shredded rubber that is coated and mixed with polyurethane binder. Flo-Coat® Galvanized Steel Tubing – Galvanizing provides

electrochemical protection to steel, in addition to forming a

protective barrier. Allied’s unique triple layer Flo-Coat galvanizing

process goes even a step further by adding a conversion coating

to passivate the zinc, and a clear polymer topcoat that reduces the

general corrosion rate of the zinc. This synergy between the coatings

allows the zinc to be more effective in protecting uncoated edges.
