FOUR-PART SERIES PREMIERE

SUN Sep 19 | 8p

A FILM BY KEN BURNS SARAH BURNS & DAVID McMAHON

BIGGER THAN BOXING.LARGER THAN LIFE.

Future of Work WED Sep 1 | 10pExplore the monumental changes in the workplace and the long-term impact on workers, employers, educators and communities. Will the future provide opportunities for jobs that sustain families and the nation?

Guilt SERIES PREMIERE SUN Sep 5 | 9p

“It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up” goes the old saying. But that didn’t stop brothers Max and Jake from hiding their guilt after running into an elderly pedestrian during an inebriated drive home from a wedding. Mark Bonnar (Unforgotten) and Jamie Sives star in an absorbing tale of deceit.

Sandra Day O’Connor: The First MON Sep 13 | 9p When Ronald Reagan nominated Sandra Day O’Connor as the Supreme Court’s fi rst female justice in 1981, the announcement dominated the news. Born in 1930 in El Paso, Texas, O’Connor grew up on a cattle ranch in Arizona in an era when women were expected to become homemakers. After graduating near the top of her class at Stanford Law School, she could not convince a single law fi rm to interview her. Forty years after her confi rmation, this biography recounts the life of a pioneering woman who both refl ected and shaped an era.

Muhammad Ali SUN–WED | Sep 19–22 | 8pThis Ken Burns production brings to life one of the best-known and most indelible fi gures of the 20th century, a three-time heavyweight boxing champion who captivated millions of fans throughout the world with his mesmerizing combination of speed, grace and power in the ring, and charm and playful boasting outside of it.

We’re hosting an event on September 23, inspired by Muhammad Ali, exploring the intersection of athletics, activism and art in our region. Check out KCTS9.org/Events to learn more or get tickets.

In Their Own Words Sep 28 & 29 | 8pJimmy Carter

“Jimmy Carter,” premiering Tuesday, September 28, is an intimate and inspiring story of a long-shot outsider who fought his way to the top offi ce in the world, beat the odds against him again and again, and never looked back in his quest to better the lives of millions. Jimmy Carter’s journey from poor, rural peanut farmer to become the39th president of the United States will be revealed to be a story of faith, determination and humanity.

Elon Musk“Elon Musk” premieres Wednesday, September 29. A multi-millionaire by the time he reached the age of 31, Elon Musk is one of a new breed of what The New York Times called "thrillionaires," high-tech entrepreneurs who are using their newfound wealth to help turn science-fi ction dreams into reality. Courtesy of Jimmy Carter Library, Bob

In the 1930s, William Randolph Hearst’s media empire included 28 newspapers, a movie studio, a syndicated wire

service, radio stations and 13 magazines. The fi rst practitioner of what is now known as “synergy,” Hearst used his media stronghold to achieve unprecedented political power, then

ran for offi ce himself. He is perhaps best known as the inspiration for Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane.

Bat SuperpowersWED Sep 15 | 9pBats have a sinister reputation as the source of some of the world’s deadliest viruses: Ebola, MERS, SARS and, most recently, SARS-CoV-2. They are resistant to the very diseases they carry, have freakishly long lifespans and are also resistant to other diseases like cancer. By understanding these unique creatures, they might unlock the key for humans to live longer, healthier lives.

The Cannabis QuestionWED Sep 29 | 9pCannabis contains chemicals that mimic ones found in our brains. One is THC, which produces the high associated with pot use. Another, called CBD, shows promise for treating seizures, addiction and insomnia. Does heavy cannabis use impair intelligence, increase psychosis or even put future generations at risk for addiction? As cannabis becomes socially accepted, scientists are racing to understand the long-term health consequences.
