A SIR PUBLICATION
MARIN COUNTY MAY 2015 VOL. XLII NO. 5 OUR 42ND YEAR
After retiring, I didn’t miss my work as much as I thought I would. And I certainly didn’t miss the commute. I
did miss interacting with my former colleagues, which is why I joined SIR Branch 47. The camaraderie at our
luncheons and special events plays an important role in my life, as I think it does for all of us. Thank you for
that.
A big thank you also to Kurt Heilman for organizing our annual Tax Party, which was held April 14 at the Marin
Country Club. It was a very enjoyable event. We had about fifty men and women associated with Branch 47
plus another twenty from Branch 122. The food was good and the wait service was excellent in typical Country
Club fashion. The room we had was small due to renovations in the Club’s main dining areas. So it was
crowded and noisy, but everyone I spoke to said they were having fun. And there was good interaction between
members of the two branches.
Ned Lawrence, the Branch 122 Big SIR, was there. He told me that 122 is definitely interested in a merger. We
have invited Ned to attend our next Executive Committee meeting to discuss the pros and cons of a possible
merger from a Branch 122 viewpoint. That meeting is April 27, so it will already have occurred by the time you
read this. More on that next month.
John Freel, Big Sir
PS: Please read the important notice on page 5 concerning the new procedure for calling in
non-attendance at lunch. And remember to send your $35.00 dues to Paul Schofield.
