The Mac is Back! New Competitors, New Local, Same Food Coma!What’s better than a creamy, steamy bowl of mac-n-cheese? Oodles of ooey, gooey yumminess will be yours for the taking at The BIG Cheese.

Mac-n-cheese is the world’s most beloved comfort food and since The Hope & Healing Place is in the business of providing comfort to the people we serve, a comfort food cook off was the perfect fit.

Just as grief can be experienced in numerous ways, the ingredients for mac-n-cheese recipes are end-less. You will have the opportunity to try out 25 varieties from some of the area’s best chefs.

This is a family friendly event. Everyone gets to play a part by voting for their favorite dish. There will be a People’s Choice and Kid’s Choice Award. Kids can create macaroni art as they pay homage to this beloved dish in the Kid’s Corner. Or cheese it up in front of camera in the Say Cheese Photo Booth.

Adults can vie for $100 Prize in the Who Moved the Cheese Mystery Box Game or try their hand at the Wine Pull. The winner of the Never Cook Again raffle will walk away with $1,000 in gift cards!

Chefs, you are our secret ingredient for success!

Your culinary talents make this a tantalizing and savory event.

Three chefs will emerge as category winners but only one will be named the cheesiest in town.

Attendees vote for their favorite dish. A panel of celebrity judges will select their favorite. Totals combined for all the above determine overall winner.

Publicity: 1,700 guests will have the opportunity to sample your pasta.

Last year’s winner and one other lucky chef will be featured on Studio 4 whip-ping up an enticing dish of mac-n-cheese.

Each chef will be high-lighted on The Big Cheese FaceBook page.

Rules for Participation:

• Entry fee is $50 cash or $100 in gift cards

• Each entrant gets two 8 ft banquet tables.

• Obtain a permit from city health department

• Set up by 4:30 p.m.• Serve same version of

mac-n-cheese to the public and judge panel

• Provide enough food for 1700 to receive samples

Mission: A safe place to promote the healing journey for grieving children, families, and individuals.

Death is a hard subject. Most people want to avoid it; yet, it is a 100% reality in life. Everyone must face the pain of death. The good news is, because of grief centers like The Hope & Healing Place no one has to face death’s aftermath alone. Help is available for healthy healing.

HHP is honored to stand with those who are grieving the death of a loved one in their pain, listen to their stories, empathize with them, and show them they are not alone in the emotions they are feeling by introducing them to others experiencing the same type of loss as well as offer them the necessary tools to help them embrace their “new normal” without the loved one in their life on a daily basis.

The center reaches out to different target audiences by offering a family program in both English and Spanish, a summer day camp for children, pregnancy/infant loss group, survivors of suicide group and an outreach pro-gram at Faith City Ministries.

There is no set fee for our services as we want to assure that everyone has access to them - that is why fundraisers like The BIG Cheese and 1/2 Marathon are so important.

Volunteers are an integral part of HHP and serve as the heart of our programs. The center offers a variety of rewarding opportunities for compassionate people who want to make a difference in the lives of grieving children, and adults. Our primary volunteer opportunities include that of Group Facilitator for our Generations Family Pro-gram, La Esperanza Spanish Family Program, Survivors of Suicide Support Group, Hope Camp or our Journey’s Outreach Program at Faith City Ministries.
