RUSSIA(Moscow and St. Petersburg)

September is the most popular time to cruise, but also the most expensive. River cruising in Russia is synonymous with the Volga River. At close to 2,300 miles in length the Volga is a mighty river, made famous in music and literature, which cuts through the heartland of Russia. You start at Astrakhan a unique blend of East and West. Visit Volgograd - a Soviet honorary title awarded for outstanding heroism during World War II. Stop at Samara founded in 14th century, Stop at Kazan often called the "Pearl of the Central Volga Region". founded in the 13th century by the Mongols and it served as the seat of the mighty Golden Horde or "Tatar" Empire. Visit Nizhny Novgorod, with magnificent views of Volga and Oka rivers, Stop at Kostroma, an old historic city in central Russia and visit Ipatievskiy Monastery. Stop at Uglich, founded in 1148 with the Cathedral of the Resurrection and St. John's Church towering on the horizon. Cruise end in Moscow.

July and August are the warmest months and the main holiday season for tourists. Winter brings the Russia of popular imagination to life. Standout seasons to visit Moscow are late spring (May or June) and early autumn (September or October), when the city's parks are filled with flowering trees or colorful leaves. Visit the dynamic Moscow - The red-brick towers of the Kremlin occupy the founding site of Moscow; churches and monuments remember fallen heroes and victorious battles; and remains of the Soviet state are scattered all around the city. Visit the historic St Petersburg - From the mysterious twilight of the White Nights to world-beating opera and ballet productions on magical winter evenings, it charms and entices in every season.

The tourist season for Normandy & Brittany lasts pretty much from May to mid-October. Three things sum up Normandy - Camembert, cider and cows. It is an enticing blend of old and new. Fishing boats jostle with designer yachts in the harbour of Honfleur; contemporary restaurants and chic boutiques sit alongside half-timbered houses and Gothic churches in Rouen. Brittany - historically cut off from the rest of the mainland by dense, impenetrable forest, in an era when sea travel was all, Brittany still stands with its back to the rest of the country, looking ocean ward.

The main season for Scotland is April to September. In April and May its glorious scenery is set off by colorful displays of wildflowers in the bluebell woods and the grass and wildflower-covered dunes. June brings a pink haze of rhododendron blossoms to the Highland glens. For the history buff, few cities compare with Edinburgh and Glasgow; Don't miss the Aberdeen Angus beef or smoked salmon from Dumfries & Galloway or the peerless malt whiskies of the Isle of Islay or Oban. The best season for Ireland is from May to July. Spring (February to April) and autumn (August to October) make good alternatives. A small country with a big reputation, helped along by a timeless, age-caressed landscape and a fascinating, friendly people, whose lyrical nature is expressed in the warmth of their welcome.

Mid-June to August is high season, but most highland tours don't operate until July because of snow. Iceland is all geysers gush, mudpots gloop, Arctic gales swish along silent fjords, stone towers rise from the depths of an indigo sea, and glaciers grind their way through cracked lava fields and the merciless tundra. The sublime power of Icelandic nature turns the prosaic into the extraordinary. A dip in the pool becomes a soothing soak in a geothermal lagoon, a casual stroll can transform into a trek across a glittering ice cap, and a quiet night of camping means front-row seats to either the aurora borealis' curtains of fire, or the soft, pinkish hue of the midnight sun.

Tuscany with painters, sculptors and architects creating the masterpieces that now entice visitors into churches, museums and galleries across the region. Giotto, Brunelleschi, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Botticelli - these and dozens of equally famous names hailed from Tuscany. Corsica is for beach lovers. And culture buffs. It combines vast stretches of shoreline with the beauty of the mountains, plenty of activities for your body and some rich history to engage your mind. Sardinia's turquoise sea and white sandy beaches rival the tropics. Alghero, in Northern Sardinia, has a fascinating Catalan history. Calgliari is historic and cosmopolitan at the same time, while the equally historic Oristano is quietly elegant. The best times to visit all of them are in the spring and fall.

The best months to visit Spain are May, June and September. Visit the World Heritage cities of Salamanca, Avila, and Segovia. Visit Valladolid- the former capital of the Spanish empire in its 15th century. Visit Burgos founded in 884, charming for that so typical medieval northern castilian ambience. Visit Santiago de Composteta to see the tomb of the apostle St James. Portugal's high season runs from mid-June to mid-September. You can also consider visiting Portugal in spring when the countryside is at its most verdant. Medieval castles, cobblestone villages, captivating cities and golden-sand beaches: the Portugal experience can mean many things. History, great food and wine, idyllic scenery and blazing nightlife are just the beginning…Festivals pack Portugal's calendar. You can drink, dance and feast your way through all-night revelries like Lisbon's Festa de Santo António or Porto's Festa de São João.

The best months to visit Spain are May, June and September (plus April and October in the south). Spain's diverse landscapes stir the soul. The Pyrenees and the Picos de Europa are as beautiful as any mountain range on the continent, while the snowcapped Sierra Nevada rises up improbably from the sun-baked plains of Andalucía. The wildly beautiful cliffs of Spain's Atlantic northwest are the scene for some of Europe's most spectacular drives, even as the charming coves of the Mediterranean are still the continent's summer destination of choice.Food and wine are national obsessions in Spain, and with good reason. Yes, there's paella, tapas, jamón and olive oil in abundance, but these are merely the best-known ingredients of a national cuisine that continues to take the world by storm.

Summer (mid-June to September) is the ideal time for hiking and camping, In September You can still swim comfortably in the Adriatic, Autumn is beautiful, particularly in the mountains of Gorenjska and Štajerska, Winter (December to March) is for skiers. Slovenia offers pristine landscape in the middle of Europe, with soaring vistas of Alpine peaks, hills and dales straight out of a 19th-century landscape painting, and sparkling lakes and rivers that appear to be underlit by emeralds. Most people visit Croatia between April and September. May and June are great months for all outdoor activities (except skiing). July and August are the most expensive months to visit Croatia. Croatia's rare blend of glamour and old-fashioned authenticity make this Europe's 'it' destination, where beaches and sunshine vie for attention with cultural treasures, ancient architecture and time-tested folk traditions.
