OverviewMission:

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri has to build trusting

and enduring relationships that encourage and support young

people. Relationships have the power to transform lives.

Vision:

Fellow Brothers and Sister learn to live in a positive, opportunity

rich environments (24/7).

History:

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri began more than 100

years ago. In 1904, Ernest Coulter wanted to create an

organization to help troubled young boys thus created the

term, “Big Brother”. Then in the year of 1916, a female group

called Ladies of Charity began to help troubled young

women. Then, in 1977, both groups began to work together to

form Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri.

ConsultantsBody of Knowledge

• Consultant are professionals that provides expert advice in

a specific area of expertise (i.e. information technology) for

a company, organization (non-profit or for-profit), public

and/or private sector, and government sector (state, local,

and foreign).

• Types of Consultants are Human Resources (HR), Strategy,

Technology, PR/Marketing, Legal, Social Media, and

Financial/ Investment

• Areas of Consultants are internal and external.

• Consultants can work for a company or organization or be

self-employed. Their work environment has to be neat,

quiet, and calm.

• In order to be a consultant, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

(in any career area of expertise). But, projected job growth

is 7-19% for 2012-2022 year.

• Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri can benefit from

using a consultant for changing management within the

organization or hiring practices.

• Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri has to take

precautions when hiring a consultant such as looking for

appropriate credentials and qualifications, practical

experience and ability, ability to communicate and listen,

and etc.

• Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri can hire a

consultant (if needed) but the consultant must have

education an job experience in order to be hired.

• If BBBS-Eastern Missouri hires a consultant but is not working to

potential, suspension or termination will be applied.

LobbyistsBody of Knowledge

• Lobbyists are defined as a type of political activity that

Nownes (2006) defines as an effort designed to affect what

the government does which included activated aimed at

influencing government activity beyond legislative efforts.

• Lobbyists provide legislative advice for a company,

organization (non-profit or for-profit), government sector

(state, local, and foreign),and etc.

• Areas of lobbyists are law firms, government sector (public

or private), colleges, church/religious organizations,

environmental organizations, and state, local, & foreign

governments.

• Types of lobbyists are consultant lobbyist, in-house lobbyist

(persons and partnerships), and in-house lobbyist

(organizations).

• In order to become a lobbyist, an individual must have a

Bachelor’s degree in the following degree field(s): political

science, journalism, law, communications, public relations,

and economics.

• Also, the Association of Government Professionals (AGP)

offers a lobbying certificate program for individuals to be

certified lobbyists.

• The job outlook for lobbyists is average-to-high but their salary

expectations are great. In 2014, a lobbyist’s salary was

$55,680.

• There is a slim chance for BBBS-Eastern Missouri to use

lobbying since nonprofit organizations do not lobby due to

time constraints, limited resources, fear, and lack of

knowledge.

• In order for BBBS-Eastern Missouri to use lobbyists, lobbyists

must be paid.

• Lobbyists can provide changes to the BBBS-Eastern Missouri

such as ensuring laws and policies are in order, notification of

legislative activity in the government sector, stage a protest

for legislative efforts for BBBS-Eastern Missouri, and etc.

• Lobbyists can receive a gift based on worker’s performance.

ContractorsBody of Knowledge

• A contractor is either a licensed professional who is either

self-employed or employed with a company. Contractors

have to sign a contract or agreement clause ensuring their

job will be completed.

• Types of contractors are general, specialty, and freelance.

• Areas of contractors are internal and external.

• To become a contractor, an individual must have either an

Associate's degree and/or Bachelor’s degree in

construction management, construction engineering, and

architecture.

• Including 2-7+ years of experience in the field as well as

obtaining certification (the Certified Construction Manage

Credential).

• The job outlook for contractors are average-to-high (mostly

high) since construction management is a major field. Mean

annual wage is $94,590 in 2014.

• A contractor is needed for BBBS-Eastern Missouri for building and expansion services.

• Employees within BBBS-Eastern Missouri have a slim chance interacting with contractors but can address any major concerns by via email or suggestion box.

• Contractors have to be paid for their services. BBBS-Eastern Missouri receives a large amount of funding each year so funds can be used to pay contractors.

• Contractors will be using building/construction to establish a new office, game/entertainment room, expanding the organization to other geo-regions, and a new computer room.

Conclusion• Contractors, Lobbyists, and Consultants are needed for

improving Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri.

• However, in order to hire and pay for contractors, lobbyists,

and consultants, the organization must have funding to

support this change.

• Employees within Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri

will have slim change of establishing a connection but can

submit requests by email or suggestion box.

• Depending on funding, consultants, lobbyists, and

contractors can be used to improve the BBBS-Eastern

Missouri organization.
