  • Brief History A young New York City court clerk named Ernest Coulter Started it all in 1904 In 1977, when Big Brothers Association and Big sisters International joined forces they became Big Brothers and Big Sisters More than 100 years later Big Brothers Big sisters is still bringing caring role models into the lives of children.

So your help will be needed, providing information about your childs strengths and needs Big Brothers Big Sisters conduct a thorough background check on every volunteer. Safety is extremely important A study found that kids matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister: Are more confident Are more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol Do better in school Get along better with their family and friends Feel better about themselves

  • Volunteering Research shows that having the positive influence of a big brother makes a real difference in a child's life. A few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a little the invaluable gift of your friendship Sometimes changing their perspective of what the world can offer is as simple as playing video games together, going to a museum, or just hanging out together You can give a child an opportunity to see beyond their everyday world and dream big Being a big brother or big sister is one of the most enjoyable things youll ever do.
