The estimated size of the Indian Retail industry is more than 450 bn USD

Unorganized sector which accounts for 90 per cent of the retailing done in thecountry

The organized sector consists of retailers like Big Bazaar, Reliance Fresh, andPantaloons etc

    The FDI Issue : Competition

Right now the Retail sector was growing at a not so attractive pace of 3% CAGR

but it is showing promise to grow constantly at a rate of 7% in the coming years

The middle and upper class of consumer bases in India is expanding rapidly and sothere would be opportunities in Tier II and III cities in India

There is need for new reforms like theFDI to bring growth and changes to

    the sector

Supporters of the FDI say that it is going toincrease tremendously once the

international players too foray into the

    market.

We clearly see from the above data that the percentage shares of the Big retailing

brand is very miniscule compared to the whole retail sector. It means that a lot of

growth opportunities are there and almost 98 per cent of the market is up for grabs
