DESCRIPTION
A fantastic afternoon with students and chaperones from BHS, we split into groups and mapped places of interest in Downtown Biddeford. Young people have a hole different idea of what should be downtown, and their routes depict anything but a straight line. Similarities? The Saco River -- vistas and rapids. Anomalies? Hieroglyphics on buildings, old rooftops and windows with curves and drips in the glass -- grafitti, mill catacombs and diner smells. These maps conjure deeper memories for the downtown explorers that day, finding classroom lessons in cracks among cobblestones.
