The Kona Tri Series is re-defining mountain biking in Australia, serving up premium single track, fire road, outback desert and forest floor between Adelaide and the Flinders Ranges.
There’s plenty on offer to tempt the more serious fat tyre types, as well as the laid-back funsters equally at home sharing a drink around the campfire as they are bopping around the berms on their hardtail.

Based in Ferndale, Washington, Vancouver, British Columbia and Geneva, Switzerland, the name Kona comes from our fascination with all things volcanic. Just think of all that hot burning magma. Glorious earth and mountain building right before your very eyes! And since our roots spread deep into the northern edge of the volcanic Cascade Mountain Range, which runs down the Pacific Coast from Canada to Southern California, and because the Hawaiian Islands are so cool and also part of a volcanic chain, we figure the Kona name came along quite naturally – just like that hot burning magma.
Kona was founded in 1988 by long-time riders and racers who had previously worked for pioneering West Coast mountain bike companies. The first Kona bikes to hit the market were custom cross-country mountain bikes developed to fit our style of riding: fast, tough and far. Twenty plus years later and we’re still doing it the same way, making thoughtful, reliable, well-balanced bicycles for discerning cyclists of all walks (or rides we should say).
We thrive on the challenge of making bikes that address the real needs of almost every type of cyclist.
With this history it is natural for the KONA way to blend with like minded organizations like Bicycle SA, who share our aim of promoting the great sport of cycling, we share common love, a common vision…
At Kona and Bicycle SA, we live and breathe bicycles. You could say it’s the volcanic magma in us.
