General Assembly Instructions• Sharpscissors.• Paper-cuttingknife(recommended:X-Actoknifewitha#11blade).• Sturdytweezerswithsmoothedges.(Tweezerswithroughedgesorteeth
willmarthesurfaceofthepieces.)• Metalrulertomakeastraightcutorscore.• Toothpicksforreachingintotinycornersandspreadingdropsofglue.• Whiteglueandgluestick.• Cuttingsurface(recommended:acuttingmat).• Drypen(noink)orbluntknifeforscoring.
TOOLSNEEDED
Usually,apieceforacardstockmodeliscutoutintwostages.First,thepieceisseparatedfromtherestofthepiecesbycuttingroughlyarounditwithscissors.
Don’tcutalongthelinesatthisstep.Oncethepieceisseparated,youcanworkonitwithoutdamagingotherpieces.It’sbesttodo
thescoringandfoldingbeforeproceedingtothefinecutting.
Cutting
Work on one piece at a time:• Scorealongthedottedlines.• Cutalongthesolidlines.• Foldalongthedottedlines,butdon’taddgluetoanypiecesyet.
VERY IMPORTANT: Tryoutthepiecestobegluedbeforeapplyingtheglue.Thiswillhelpyouunderstandhowthepiecesfittogether,andyouwillbeabletotakenoteofanyadjustmentsthatmightbeneeded.Thenapplyasmallamountofglueonthetabindicatedbyablackdot.
Mountain fold
Valley fold
Scorethefoldlinestomakeacrispstraightfold.It’sespeciallyimportantforthesmallestpiecestobescoredbeforefolding.Toscore,placeametalruleralongthefoldline,andthenpresswithadullpoint(adrypenordullknife)alongthefoldlinetocompressthepaper.Thiswillhelptoachieveacrispfold.
Therearetwokindsoffolds:
Mountain foldgenerallymeansthatthetextureisontheoutside,whileonavalley foldthetextureisusuallyinside.
Mostpiecesonthemodelrequireamountain fold,thoughafewuseavalley fold.Valleyfoldswillbeindicatedonthemodelpieceswiththevalleyfoldsymbol.
