Robbers flee with cash and vehicles in morning heist

By RASHITHA A. HAMID and STEVEN DANIEL

    [email protected]

SUBANG JAYA: Four armed men wearing ski masks broke into a Chinese school

here and fled with RM30,000 from a safe and several vehicles after tying up 11

people in an early morning robbery here.

Subang Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt Tan Ah Chua said the four entered the school at

about 2am. One had what looked like a gun while another held a parang to two of

the security guards. The guards were then tied up.

In the next four hours, the robbers also held up four school canteen staff, a

maintenance worker, the canteen owner as well as three newspaper vendors.

The robbers stole a lorry used by the newspaper vendor and a Toyota Camry which

belonged to the school canteen owner.

The four fled at about 6am. Other staff members who arrived at the school shortly

afterwards discovered the tied-up victims and alerted the police.

It is indeed puzzling why the robbers were at the crime scene for almost four hours,

    said Supt Tan.

All the victims were tied up and were unharmed while the robber with the parang

    kept an eye on them.

Supt Tan said the safe which contained the cash was hidden within a closet in the

teacher's room, adding that it was likely the robbers had prior knowledge of the

    whereabouts of the safe.

We will definitely investigate all angles and do not rule out the possibility of an inside

    job, he said.

Supt Tan said the school was equipped with numerous closed circuit cameras and

hoped the footage could help shed light on the identity of the robbers.

Robbers give advice to elderly victims

TWO teenagers who ransacked the home of an elderly couple in Alor Gajah left with

a loot of RM300 in cash, two handphones and a lawn mower, but not before giving

    their victims some parting advice.

Retired teacherMd Amin Ismail, 74, relating the incident toHarian Metro, said one ofthe robbers advised the duo not to live at home on their own.

Before they left, one of them told us that we are old and that we should live with our

children, said Md Amin, who was injured by a machete during the robbery at 3.30am

    on Thursday.

Md Amin said the assailant held the weapon to his neck and tied up his hands.

His wife, Fatimah Mohamad, 80, had a piece of cloth stuffed into her mouth. She,

    too, was tied up.

It was the second time this year that the couple have been robbed.

In February, they were robbed by three people and lost about RM10,000 in cash and

    jewellery.

    > A 17-year-old was beaten up by his own brother after he questioned his eldersibling for using their father's fishing rod with-out permission.

Harian Metroreported that the 20-something brother lashed at his younger siblingwith the rod before chasing him with a machete.

Apparently, he had asked his teenage brother about the fishing rod as he wanted to

go fishing with his friends in Perlis.

When the boy questioned the elder brother for not getting their father's permission,

he became angry and hit the boy several times with the rod.

Then he went to his car, took out a machete and chased after the boy, said Padang

Besar police chief Supt Che Man Md Dros.

A police report was made later that night.

Supt Che Man said the police were looking for the elder brother.

    SECTION B : ESSAY WRITING

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF BEING A MEMBER OF A

    LARGE FAMILY

Family is a basic unit of social structure, the exact definition of which can vary

greatly from time to time and from culture to culture. In most societies family is the

principal institution for the socialization of children. A large family means a large

amount or number of people connected in this social structure. There are manyadvantages for the people to live In a large family.

For example, the sense of belonging for a person who lives in large family is

higher compared to those who live in small family. They tend to be more attached

with their family members. They feel the love towards the family to be higher than the

    people in small families.

The other advantage of large family is, the member of large family never feels

lonely. They will always be surrounded by many people. They hardly know the

meaning of boredom since they can always engage themselves with various

activities with their family members. Being in a large family is full of fun often

    exciting.

Besides that, being in a large family is beneficial because doing daily house

chores will never be a tough task. We will always find people to help us do our house

works such as cleaning, sweeping, washing and many more.

However, being in a large family also has a few disadvantages such as less

money to spend around. Since the number of members in the social institution is

higher, we will have less money to spend around. The money is equally divided for

each of the members to spend. So, we could face some problems in large families

due to lack of financial strength.

    13

Another disadvantage of living in a large family is, no or less privacy. We

could have no privacy or less privacy since we will always be surrounded by number

of people. We could find it hard to spend our time alone or more personally.

Usually children in large families get less attention from their parents. We

cant blame the parents because they have to spend time with all the children

everyday which is almost impossible. So, the children tend to misbehave due to lack

of love and care from the parents.

Large family has both advantages and disadvantages. We, as a part of the

social institution should understand the benefits and the importance of large family.

At the same time, we should tolerate within our family. If we can understand each

and every members of the family and we are willing to give and take between us, our

    family is The Heaven.
