Day Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 Hong Kong – Paro – Thimphu

Take the direct flight to Paro. Upon arrival at Paro, you will meet your guide and transfer to Thimphu,

following the Pa Chu and Wang Chu rivers. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, a landmark in Thimphu and

also a social gathering place for locals. Visit also the The Folk Heritage Museum (close Sat 1:00 p.m. / Sun

1:00p.m. / Gov’t holidays)or farmer market (open Fri to Sun). Later visit the Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s

national animal – Takin, followed by the Statue of Sakyamuni Buddha – a 51.5m bronze Buddha sitting on top

of Kuensel Phodrang hill. The site also offers unobstructed views over the Thimphu Valley.

Overnight at Thimphu (Meals: Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2

Thimphu – Punakha After breakfast, drive over the high mountain pass to Dochu La (3,050m) where on a clear day, there is a panoramic view of the towering Himalayan peaks, then descend to the beautiful Punakha valley. On arrival, walk through a small village to Chimi Lakhang (the Temple of the Divine Madman). This site is still believed to hold fertility powers for women! From the vantage point of Chimi Lakhang, there is a spectacular view of the Punakha Valley. You will have a picnic lunch with a beautiful view of Punakha Dzong. Then visit the majestic Punakha Dzong (fortress), which is strategically built at the junction of the Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River). In the evening, visit Nalanda University – Buddhist monastic school. Monks reside here getting their Buddhist education. You will get an opportunity to socialize with the monks and observe their evening routine. At around 8pm, they conduct their buddhist debate activity. If you wish, you can either have your evening tea or dinner with the monks at the residential area of the university. Overnight in Punakha (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3

Punakha – Thimphu – Paro

Today after breakfast, drive back to Thimphu. Visit the The Folk Heritage Museum or farmer market if they are closed on Day 1. You will also visit the Post Office and make your customized stamps (at extra cost). Later transfer to Paro, visit the National Museum – Ta Dzong, where you can see various precious items including an egg of a mule! After that proceed to the Paro Dzong, the architecture, monk and mural paintings there will help you understand the way of life and Bhutanese queer customs. Overnight in Paro (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4

Paro (Tiger’s Nest)

Today is one of the highlights for visiting Bhutan – hiking to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). It’s perched on the high cliff of 900 meters above the floor of Paro valley. The monastery is the most famous in Bhutan and recently has been listed one of the ten holiest places in the world. Hike up for a fascinating view or take a pony ride (at extra cost). In the afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan dating back to the 7th century. This evening you will enjoy a home-cooked dinner in a farmhouse, where you can enjoy a hot stone bath (at extra cost) or try wearing traditional Bhtuanese costume! Overnight in Paro (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5

Paro – Hong Kong

After breakfast, visit the ancient ruin of Drukgyel Dzong, the dzong was named Druk (Bhutan) gyel (victory) to commemorate the victory of Bhutan over Tibetan invaders in 1644. After lunch, have a stroll at the Paro town, where you can buy some souvenirs home. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)
