As per the recommendations contained in the interim report of Products Approval Committee for LED Lighting Fixtures submitted to this Directorate vide no. 26(4)/CE(E)/DR/SE(E)S&S/2001/361 dated 16/6/2010, the Director General of Works is pleased to approve the following six firms provisionally for a period of two years or till the outcome of final report whichever is earlier.

1. Since the LED fixtures are very expensive, decision to provide LED fittings be taken selectively and where it is considered to do so in the interest of work.2. Feedback on the performance of LED fittings be sent to S&S Unit for consideration.3. While selecting LED fittings suitable guarantee be taken from the manufacturer for life and quality of the fittings.4. NIT approving authority to decide technical requirements and in accordance with CVC guidelines.5. The matter will be placed before Specification Committee for E&M Works for wider consultation and recommending guidelines for selection of LED fittings for various applications and for implementation of NMCC's recommendation.6. Based on feedback, application of LED fittings be increased gradually.7. The matter to be reviewed after standard & test protocol of LED fittings are issued by BIS and test facilities are established by CPRI.

The approval given above does not absolve the executive/supervisory officer from their overall responsibility for using this product. It is only after they are satisfied about the quality, rate and performance; the product shall be used. To achieve this, proper check on the quality of the product actually to be used should be exercised.

Colour Temperatures

Warm color temperatures tend to enhance red and orange colors, adding a yellow tint to white items, and are typically used in

homes and restaurants. Neutral color temperature lights do not bring out any particular color, and are common in retail stores.

Cool color temperature lights enhance blue colors, adding a bluish color to white items, and are often used in hospitals and

offices.

Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) relates to the color of light produced by a light source, measured in degrees Kelvin. Imagine a

piece of tungsten metal being heated. As it is heated the color of the metal will gradually shift from red to orange to yellow to

white to bluish white. The color of light is measured along this scale, with the more orange color light being referred to as "warm

white" and the whiter color light being referred to as "cool white". The table below lists the color temperature of various light

sources. Realize that the color temperature of specific products may fall out of the ranges listed below.
