Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts was born on February 5, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to the union of William and Sally Suddeth Tolliver. She was married to the late retired United States Air Force Colonel Lawrence E. Roberts. They were the proud parents of four adult children: Lawrence E. Roberts, II, educator with the Houston

Public School District; Sally-Ann Roberts Nabonne, anchor of WWL- TV 4 Morning Show in New Orleans, Dorothy Roberts McEwen, Director of South Mississippi Regional Center, of Long Beach, MS; and Robin R. Roberts, anchor, ABC’s Good Morning America, New York, NY. She was also the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Roberts graduated from Howard University in Washington, D. C. where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She is a former social worker, college counselor and educator.

Her numerous honors, awards and recognitions included: 2011 NAACP Medgar Evers Lifetime Achievement Award; 2011 Mississippi Medal of Service, presented by Honorable Governor Haley Barbour; 2010 Tocqueville Award Recipient, United Way of South Mississippi just to name a few.

She was the author of My Story, My Song: Mother-Daughter Reflections on Life and Faith, which will be available April 2012. This is an inspirational memoir of Mrs. Roberts, detailing pivotal moments in her life and revealing how faith in God has provided her with strength and hope to face the challenges of life. Reflections from her daughter, Robin on her mother’s life and faith cap off each chapter.
