PLOS Data Policy
PLOS journals require authors to make all data underlying the findings described in their manuscript fully available without restriction, with rare exception
When submitting a manuscript online, authors must provide a Data Availability Statement describing compliance with PLOS's policy
Since March 2014

Messaging challenge:
Authors must authorize CrossRef to make updates
• On January 7, 2016, a coalition of publishers signed an Open Letter committing to start requiring ORCID IDs in 2016.
1. Implementing best practices for ORCID collection and auto-update of ORCID records upon publication
2. Require ORCID IDs for corresponding authors and encourage for co-authors
ORCID Implementation
• PLOS was one of the original group of publishers to sign the ORCID open letter in January 2016
• We were collecting ORCIDs in Editorial Manager, but many were not authenticated
• Spent much of 2016 working to get our contributors on board
• Made ORCID a requirement for corresponding authors at the beginning of December 2016

Author Contributions
The contributions of all authors must be described. PLOS has adopted the CRediT Taxonomy of author contributions. As the submitting author will be responsible for completing this information at submission, it is expected that all authors will have reviewed, discussed, and agreed to their individual contributions ahead of this time. Contributions will be published with the final article, and they should accurately reflect contributions to the work.
